Today we celebrate our collective genius by acknowledging and saluting a few of our best minds: 1) bell hooks whose birthday is today and who has shown me and generations of Black feminists and womanists how to think, speak, and write critically and lovingly and angrily, when necessary on our own terms 2) Saidiya Hartman - Behold...a writer...(man, can she write!) and thinker and historian and mind exploder and 2019 MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellow 3) Emmanuel Pratt - all around brilliant and dope dude (from way, way back in our young BK days) who is on the ground doing AMAZING work in Chicago via his organization @sweetwaterfdn Also, a 2019 MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellow I’m soooooo inspired!!!! 🧠 🖤 Clap for’em!!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 #MacArthurGenius #macarthurfellow https://www.instagram.com/p/B22Hn06h8tG/?igshid=1135m9o9zpxhk
