"Sorry, it's Macaulay. I just call her Mac," Lucky corrects, fighting a losing battle to not get on the nerves of the woman at the main reception desk, a loud click-clack of keyboard keys following. He explains that he's not family and then curses himself for being too literal, adding that he's her boyfriend and she's a patient there.
( If his chest started to feel any tighter or his heart started to pound any harder, he worries he might also end up being a patient there. )
Another brief back and forth ensues before her room number is confirmed to him.
It feels personal when the elevator doesn't respond to the call button as quickly as he needs it to causing him to abandon waiting for it and taking the stairs instead. The ascends them in twos instead of ones, following confusing hospital direction arrows until he's found her.
The relief he feels is short lived.
"Hey," He greets, voice soft as he steps into the room and brings himself to the seat at her bedside, presumably previously occupied by Keo who's words he had only half retained on the phone after he heard 'Mac' and 'hospital'.
He takes her hand in his, his thumb brushing over her knuckles gently as his eyes found hers.
"What's going on?"

Mack deliberately lets the silence in the room stretch on for longer than he can usually manage, his attention trained on his sister from the uncomfortable chair he was parked in at her bedside. He's not mad at her, he is a little ticked at being the last to know that something was going on.
( And how deliberate a choice that was. )
"Straight to voicemail, huh?"

With two particularly taxing conversations in the rearview and a night that was dwindling down to the small hours, Ziggy's outside in the smoking area taking a moment to himself to decompress before heading back inside.
His turn to do so was almost expedited when he heard footsteps joining the space, his interest in conversation with strangers dwindling down to nothing.
It's only when he looks over his shoulder and see's the opposite of a strange face -- though the costume was another story -- he relaxes and remains where he's stood by an elevated table with an ashtray on it.
"You look so fabulous and disturbing right now," He compliments while ushering Mac over with a wave, "But if you have any more bad news to impart on me I'm sooo not in the place to receive it."

"Come on, come on," Keo says to his own image reflected back to him on his phone screen as he listens to it trill as he waits for his FaceTime call to a contact he had saved as 'teammate' to connect.

After killing a whole afternoon bouncing around arcade games, Reggie's certain he's won enough tickets to claim a stuffed Corgi, which reminded him of the one his grandmother used to have back in Wales when he had been growing up.
( Both his grandmother and the dog had been called Doris, which made for a number of mix-ups. )
He was about to request it from the girl behind the prize counter when he realises exactly which girl it was, causing him to pause in the way he always did when he encountered something he deemed awkward.
"Ah, Mac, hey. Didn't know you worked here."
He knew she had moved back, he had no choice but to know that with how often Simon had reminded him of that fact on WhatsApp since Reggie himself had re-located home to Aurora Bay for the foreseeable.

With a borrowed (stolen) steel champagne bucket from the bar, Mack had dumped out the icy sloshy contents of it before he tucked it under his arm. He has to focus for a second to find the rhythm against the clash of the music playing but after a few light taps on the end of the bucket, he knows he has it.
He tucks his menacing twig behind his ear and beneath his nefarious ginger bob wig for safe keeping, granting a brief stay on his weaponized evildoing with it for a momentary pause.
It's then that Aunt Gladys crosses genres and movies as he drums out the same sound that the thumpers made in Dune when calling forth a sandworm in the desert. His lipstick smudged paper white face maintained a strictly serious expression as he marches like a funeral procession drummer through the bar in search of his sandworm-ified sister.
