You can really never go wrong with either Mac Barnett or Isabelle Arsenault, both masters of the child's perspective. Indeed, sometimes when kids ask their inevitable torrent of "why" questions they want information, but other times they're looking to be challenged, to have their silliness and imaginative boundaries pushed ever further. In Barnett and Arsenault's "Just Because" (2019), a father responds to his child's litany of bedtime questions with mischievous exaggeration, a bedtime story of what-ifs to ponder as she settles in for the night. I was sent a copy of this book by the publisher for consideration as part of our book club's Best of 2019 list, and I have to say, it's right up there among my favourites.
