She really said that and I have been feral ever since, I can't stop thinking about it, it's fascinating
Can you imagine? Can you imagine Romeo and Juliet actually escaping and maybe it looks like they have a happy ending for a while. But all the horror and hatred and violence they saw when they were young and continue to be exposed to as they grow up just twists them
And they cling to each other, they sacrificed so much to be together, don't they deserve to get what they want? Don't they deserve the power to make their own destiny, to never be at the mercy of others again?
And the Macbeth/Lady Macbeth dynamic actually does work as a distorted reflection of Romeo and Juliet. She was always bolder than him, more willing to jump head first into a plan, and she was more practical and determined. And then she was taken by grief when she started to realize the extent of the consequences with Tybalt's death, but she bounced back that time.
And Romeo was slower to be moved to fight, but when he was overtaken by anger he gave in to violence. But a lifetime as a soldier on top of all the violence of his youth would have desensitized him to it.
My thoughts about it aren't fully coherent but there are a lot of them. I need to map it out better
