Watched just one episode of MacGyver for the first time in years last night.... and then felt quite literally like I got possessed by the spirit of Halloween or what-the-hell-ever because next thing I knew I was pulling an all-nighter, and eventually coming out of a magical macjack haze with this monster and more words written in a handful of hours than I've published in the entire rest of the year put together.
I really can't tell you what happened. I'm still coming to terms with it. But I miss these boys so much, I refuse to complain.
Anyway. If you want a little tenderness, some banter, a nice helping of H/C wound tending, and of course a bit of a seasonally appropriate spookiness (just a bit, I swear, you'll be safe), maybe come give this baby a try. And did I mention there's nonconsensual pet-names?

Snippet to tantalize you 🔮🔮🔮: "See, because, sometimes, in moments like this, their carefully constructed walls have been known to crumble. Their solid painted lines would blur, the snarking and teasing and fighting would leave, vacating like stale air through an opened window, and the world would narrow down to just Mac-and-Jack again. Sometimes, in these moments, their hands would linger, and that quiet steady Sandbox codependence would return, and Jack would look at him with smile-lines wrapped warmly around his brown eyes and call him something crazy like darlin'."

Between the flight and the time difference, it was only a little past noon by the time the team finally touched down back in California. Matty seemed tired enough too, so it was still pretty early in the afternoon by the time she let them out of debrief.
"Lunch?" Riley asked the group as they were all shuffling their way out of HQ. "Stave off the jetlag for a little longer?"
"I'm in," Bozer nodded enthusiastically. "I could go for a nice steaming slice right about now. Plane food is still terrible, even when it's funded by shadow organizations."
Cage exhaled. "Yeah. Some food and some sunshine sounds nice right about now."
Riley turned to him and Jack. "Guys?"
Personally, Mac just wanted to sleep, jetlag be damned. One quick look at the circles under Jack's eyes told him the other man was thinking about the same thing.
"Nah, we're gonna head back," he said, stuffing his hands in just jacket pockets. "You guys go on ahead." Jack didn't say anything from next to him, in opposition or otherwise.
The three of them left with a quick flurry of nods and shoulder pats, Jack remaining uncharacteristically silent and only bothering to give a few weak smiles and a half hug to Riley.
Once the others turned the corner round the building toward where Cage had parked her ride the day before, Mac turned to Jack.
"You good?" He asked quietly.
"'Course," Jack nodded. He grinned at him crookedly. "Don't even think a single G.I. Joe spook followed me home, so one might even say I'm golden."
Mac huffed in exasperation, reluctantly amused. "I think a nice, old fashioned haunting would do you a load of good," he said, nudging Jack's shoulder with his own. "Might make your personality more bearable."
Jack grimaced, just for half a second, before shooting a wry grin his way. Mac knew him too well not to notice it. He tried to hide his frown behind a return smile and chose not to say anything.
"Mine?" Mac asked.
Jack closed his eyes and let out a shaky breath. "Yeah, Hoss. Sounds good."
Without another word, or even meeting Mac's eye, he turned and headed toward the parking lot.
Mac frowned and stared after him.
"Come on, man," Jack called over his shoulder, once he was a good distance away and finally realized Mac still hadn't made the move to follow him. "I know my backside looks devine, but it really ain't even my good side."
Well, that got his mind focusing on other things, at least. Mac flushed, cursed himself for flushing, and then quickly made to catch up.

Summary:
Matty ambushes Mac on a Sunday before he’s had his first cup of coffee. This is kind of unfair but Mac is a spy and his boss knows she has to take advantage of his weaknesses if she wants to catch him unaware.
“You’re going on vacation,” Matty states, voice hard and leaving little room for argument.
“Whut?” Mac blinks, trying to make sense of the fact that she’s standing in his kitchen at half past seven on a Sunday morning. Behind him, the coffee machine makes a pathetic noise before shutting down, and he remembers that he was supposed to repair that yesterday.
In a world where soulmates recognize each other by their first words, Mac takes a vacation that goes downhill fast. In the end, it takes the combined effort of the Phoenix team to save the day and Mac's soulmate.
Mac's always had nightmares of loosing the people he loves, it's part of the job. However, the ones of loosing Jack have been so much more intense since the Delta left for the Kovak's mission. They're practically every night and Mac's basically a restless zombie version of himself. Today, he's woken out of his nightmare by someone pounding at his door and he's met with a life-changing surprise when he opens the door.
Turns out forever starts today.

Summary:
Mac is currently stuck between a stack of paint buckets, colour somewhere between chartreuse and pear, and a display of bathroom tiles in every shade of blue-green imaginable. He’s also currently being kissed very thoroughly by the incredibly skilled bathroom tiles salesman who up until two minutes ago was showing him said tiles while lacking most of the enthusiasm Mac has come to expect from the average American salesperson.
Needless to say, this was not how Mac had been expecting his day to go when he’d gotten up that morning.
Mac should never be allowed to experiment at home. Bozer is long-suffering, and Jack is a very unenthusiastic bathroom tiles salesman.

Summary:
Jonah looks at him and smiles. The expression transforms his somewhat brutish face and makes him look a lot less intimidating. Angus finds himself smiling back hesitantly.
“No, I’m not going to kill you, kid. Like your dad said, most of us are pretty harmless to humans. Do you know why?” Jonah tilts his head back slightly and Angus catches a glint of metal at his throat.
“Because of the collar?”
The man nods. “Because of the collar. Long as I’m wearing this,” he says, tapping a finger against it, “I’m no danger to anyone Uncle Sam doesn’t approve of.”
In a world that's neither fair nor kind, being a werewolf means living life as a second class human. Thankfully, Mac and Jack have never been very good at taking things lying down.

Summary:
The goose waddles into Jack’s apartment building two days after his return from hunting down Kovacs. It stares at Jack, stopping just in front of him where he’s about to turn the key in the lock.
Beady dark eyes gaze at him balefully.
“This isn’t happening,” Jack mumbles to himself and closes his eyes. He takes a deep breath, silently counting to ten, before he opens his eyes again.
The goose is still glaring at him.
Mac and Jack are idiots in love. The Soulmate Goose of Enforcement shows them the error of their ways.
"No, no, no, don't you dare even think about leaving me behind," Jack says, grabbing his arm, and the unexpected contact, unexpected to Mac anyway, has him tilt forward suddenly, Jack's hands the only thing keeping him from hitting the floor in a rather embarassing fashion.
Mac hates this feeling of helplessness.
"Why not? You didn't have any problem leaving me behind two years ago." Mac regrets his words as soon as he said them, and while he can't see Jack flinch, he can definitely feel it in the way Jack's hands tighten on his arms.
Dammit, Mac still hasn't learned has he? They don't talk about that, about Mac anger and the resentment that's been slowly building up ever since Jack left.
He'll be lucky if Jack lets him say goodbye properly this time before getting his ass back on a plane to (location redacted).
"Hey," Jack says, voice low and insistent. Instead of leaving the hospital room, Jack's hands come up to frame his face and he presses his forehead to Mac's.
"Leaving you was a mistake. One I can't make alright again, but I can make damn sure it's a mistake I'm not gonna repeat." Jack takes a deep breath and Mac thinks that his heart is beating loudly enough to hear across the street by now.
"I'm going were you're going and that's final."
Mac lets out a sound somewhere between a laugh and a sob. "What are you even going to do, Jack? It's not like I can still go into the field, being as I am now." He gestures vaguely at his face and knows that Jack will unterstand what he means.
"No idea. Maybe I'll teach people how to surf."
Mac is definitely laughing now. "Jack, you can't even stand upright on the board on a good day."
"It'll be an adventure," Jack answers, and Mac wishes, like he's done so many times since his last op, that he hadn't been standing as close to the explosion as he had, that he could still see the way Jack shrugs at him and smiles, warm brown eyes crinkling with amusement instead of having to imagine it all. What wouldn't he do right now to get his sight back.

Summary:
Jack wakes up and immediately wishes he hadn’t.
“Fuck!”
There’s a particular insistent sunbeam trying to drill a hole into his head when he opens his eyes and, judging by the taste in the back of his throat, he must have eaten something that ended up dying before it reached its destination. He gathers every bit of strength he has left and turns over to escape the light, only to be met with several inches of exposed skin, lightly dusted with freckles, and a tousled blond head he can only see the back of.
Aka, Mac and Jack can't keep their hands off each other, neither of them is actually helpful in catching the bad guy, and Bozer is so done with both of them.
