we spent our last day of language class translating the classic Backstreet Boys song, "I Want It That Way" into Macedonian and thus, we had to film ourselves attempting to sing it. next time, i promise we'll include some dance moves. enjoy!
vocal stylings by: daniel, emily, chris, me, and ted. props to our teacher, Ksenija, for filming and helping with translation.
[lozovo, macedonia]
most commonly heard
i hear the following words at least 20+ times a day:
земи (ze-mee) - take јади (ya-dee) - eat уште (oo-shte) - more ајде (ay-de) - no literal translation, could mean: bye, get going, come on, or a bunch of other things дојде (doy-dee) - come
most of these are used in the context of the dinner table and are repeated multiple times very quickly and with a hand motion for added pressure for me to eat as much as i can possibly ingest.
the trouble is, now that it's getting colder there is less work for my host mom to do outside so she is spending more time making scrumptious breads and cakes that i simply cannot refuse. oy vey.
