Sorry to say I forgot about proof. Hope this works.

Under the note was a wrapped parcel containing his Hufflepuff Quidditch Jumper (the good one with his name on the back, not the one that was as of recently a bit too small and had a hole in the cuff) with a signed statement pinned to the front reading:
I, Davey Gudgeon, hereby certify that I made out with Mary MacDonald after the Gryffindor Quidditch victory against Ravenclaw (and it was lovely).
