YALL. I HAVE A PSA.
So Pope Leo recently released a 200-page paper. He details and speaks his thoughts on a lot of issues in this paper, but the big one is about how much AI sucks, which is AWESOME, yet another W for the Pope
HOWEVER. This will have an even BIGGER affect on the U.S. specifically than you think… it’s going to be able to affect EDUCATION!
Most schools in the U.S. mandate school-issued tech for students (which is almost guaranteed to be one of the issues leading to the literacy crisis in young people today.) You can appeal the school as a parent to have your child exempt from this, but it’s a very difficult and lengthy process.
The fact that Pope Leo wrote about how awful AI was in his paper now means that parents can now officially cite religious reasons as a means to get their child exempt from being issued technology by their school.
No school can fight this, either- religious reasons of and for exemption is a right outlined in the Civil Rights Act, which makes it law for the school to comply!
This is AMAZING NEWS for the U.S. education system. Why, you may ask? Because the push for technology to be integrated into the schooling system has failed students miserably. Testing scores from before mandated technology became standard were far, far higher than average standardized test scores today- look it up! There are tons of studies and data on this!
The push for technology and AI in schooling is hurting education. It is causing a national literacy crisis. The fact that religious reasons can now be cited as a reason to be exempt from tech mandates will benefit students IMMENSELY, and it’s one huge, huge step towards going back to pencil and paper!
