What inter school sports can yr 9s do?

Hey!

Basically all sports that we have to offer! Remember to keep an eye out on your emails as well as the Sport google classroom as that’s where information will be posted about all the possible sport tryouts.

Some of the sports you can be a part of include: netball, footy, basketball, soccer, hockey, tennis, table tennis, swimming, volleyball, softball, frisbee, lawn bowls, handball, cheerleading, badminton, cricket and probably heaps more!

Just make sure you try out and give it a go!

In reply to your answer about bias at macrob, and how you guys said to "bring it up to who's in charge," it won't work. All the teachers are biased as well and it is clear they favour+like the girls who choose the teams. The teachers will say they're not but it's really obvious, some of these sport reps + captains can get away with almost anything, including uniform. If you're not friends with these girls, you have no chance. The teachers love them and let them do whatever they want.

We’re sure the majority of teachers wouldn’t intentionally favour some girls over others just for the sake of doing so, what would they get out of doing that? Most teachers care about your wellbeing and are there to help you succeed in their fields. Unfortunately, like you observed, this may be happening with some teachers, and we’re sorry there isn’t much we can do about that.

Maybe that is just something that we have to accept, there is not really much point in mulling over something we cannot control. But if you really feel that you are being treated unfairly when you shouldn’t, there are still many people you can talk to, including your year level coordinator, counsellor, or even the principal. After all, that is what they are here for and I’m sure they’ll be willing to hear you out. Or if you can patch things up and address the school reps/captains/portfolio leaders themselves, we’re sure that as captains with a leadership role it is their responsibility to help you out and give equal opportunity, so having a chat with them might give you some feedback on why you might have missed out on something. Even if it’s simply as a reminder for them to be aware of how their actions are unfair towards students can help in making the experience at Mac.Rob better for everyone.

To the anon who said Macrob is biased, I 100% agree. All these sign up things- people are chosen based on who their friends are. If it’s first come first served then that’s different, but if there are tryouts it’s almost always biased. My friend missed out on an opportunity early this year for a spot in a sports team, and the girls who actually made it on happened to be friends with the girl who chose teams + they’re not very good. Just my opinion.

Your persistence is admirable and one day your efforts will pay off. If you feel as if bias is a major factor of how sport teams are picked next year, do bring it up with whoever is in charge because we’d hate to see talented individuals missing out on things that they deserve.

Everything at this school is biased. The captains and house reps and whatever else there is always pick their friends for everything. It can't just be a coincidence when the sign up lists and awards are always given to people who are friends with said leaders. Every single person on the blind soccer team signups has connections with the sport cohort. I am sick of missing out on opportunities because I don't know the right people. Everyone should be given equal chance, not just your friends.

I know how that feels and it can be disheartening, everyone should definitely be given equal opportunities! However, please remember that Mac.Rob isn’t always as biased as you think. Having been on a leadership team where we had to send out sign ups sheets, it really was a first in first served basis so it really came down to chance and who checked their emails at the right time. Many of my friends actually missed out so captains aren’t just choosing who they know. As sporty people are probably most likely interested in blind soccer, that might be why it may seem biased.

In terms of awards, it is mostly chosen by teachers and there is a criteria that the student must fit. The only award I can think off the top of my head that is chosen by the student leaders are House Awards. As there are so many people in each house, just make sure you participate in lots of the house activities and don’t be afraid to let your house captain know about the stuff you have done!

A helpful tip is to turn your notifications for emails on your phone as signups are mostly on a first come first served basis. Also if you really are interested, it doesn’t hurt to email the respective organisers to let them know that you are interested so that if anyone drops out, they can contact you.

Just remember that there are so many opportunities at Mac.Rob so even if you miss out this time, there will be other chances!

what year are all the exchange student and tours like for

Hi there,

Any student in Year 10, 11 and 12 can participate in the language exchanges and study tours. Year 9s unfortunately cannot as student exchanges and tours are organised the year before they happen. However, Year 9’s can participate in Adelaide Exchange if they are selected for one (or more!) of the sport teams. They can also be involved in hosting someone if they are interested and able to.

It’s definitely disappointing to have lost the exchange this year but by no means does that mean we are ‘shit’. Almost all the participants, and students in general, involved in the exchange put in lots of hard work and effort in preparation of the exchange and despite the outcome, Mac.Rob did a terrific job and stuck it out to the end.

In every competition, there will be winners and losers. Just as one soars when they win, one must also lose with grace. The essence of good sportsmanship is defined by this and to continue to persist as well as accept the final outcome, whatever it may be, is not just a symbol of good sportsmanship but also holds to a high regard the values we share at Mac.Rob.

Remember that there’s always next year and in a competition/exchange such as this one, the thing to gain isn’t just the victory title and a trophy but rather it’s the lifelong friendships made and memories shared that truly make the difference.

I found out I got into macrob a few weeks ago and I was wondering what the sport programs like at MacRob? Is there a basketball team? What type of competitions does macrob participate in? for interschool sports what schools do you generally play against? Which house is the strongest in sports?

Hey,

Mac.Rob participates in a range of interschool sports including basketball, netball, footy, badminton, table tennis, hockey, soccer, volleyball, just to name a few!

We play in the beachside division against schools including Mentone, Cheltenham, Glen Eira, and Albert Park.

One of our biggest annual sporting events is our Adelaide Exchange that has been going on for more than 100 years and it’s essentially half a week of competing in various sports against students from Adelaide High School.

In terms of house, the ‘strongest’ in sport will vary each year as different students with differing levels of sporting ability will come and go so we can’t give you a definitive answer.
