Although Macrotermes are often considered a dry, tough food, when prepared correctly, they can be quite juicy in flavor. If it's a sweet dessert you are after it may be worth trying a Macrotermes pop. A thick coating of hard sugar surrounds the bitter critters giving it a unique taste and texture. Many pups Megalotis can be seen sucking on these lollies as a reward for hard work. Although many adults find the flavor far too sweet.

The Megalotis are known for the many dishes that they make using Macrotermes as the star. It is easy to down hundreds of these little critters as, on their own, these little creatures aren't very filling. Farmers will spend countless hours in the field checking up on their Macrotermes mounds and making sure that they haven't gotten out of control. Once every few months they will go out with large bags and harvest large amounts of the bugs to sell as ingredients. Most farmers will be careful about how many they harvest leaving plenty of workers behind to sustain the mound.

Probably the most widely known dish is that of the Dried Macrotermes. After being harvested they will spend a few days in the sun drying before being sprinkled with salt and packaged up. The drying process causes them to stay good for many months causing them to be both a good snack and a good for long-term food storage.

The Macrotermes Braminus is an Animalian creature that is a mixture between a blind snake and a termite. They mostly keep to themselves and harvest dead plant material and sometimes carrion that they then bring back to their mounds for food and building materials. They will feed these materials to a strange fungus they grow in their nests. As the fungi break down the food, it becomes more mushy and edible to the Macrotermes. Their eyes, if you can call them that, are tiny pinpricks on their face that can only really see dark and light, making them rely more on their antenna and front arms for navigating the world. 

If their mounds are attacked, they will often come out in full force and try to tear apart the attacker with their sharp mandibles, curling their flexible bodies around their prey and latching on tightly in an attempt to inflict as many bites as possible. They have been a few recorded instances of swarms of Macrotermes ganging up on an Animalian and using their great strength to drag them back into their nest still alive. No one is quite sure why they do this.

These creatures are a large part of the Megalotis's life and history, as it is believed that the Megalotis gained their large ears because of an attack from this creature. In modern times the Megalotis's diet consists mostly of Macrotermes and many Megalotis find jobs as Macrotermes Braminus farmers.
