in which : being morgan’s girlfriend is tiring and too much to handle and finally, you snap.
the house is already tense before a word’s even said.
it’s quiet in that wrong way—like everyone’s waiting for something to kick off.
morgan’s in the kitchen, leaning against the counter, scrolling on his phone like nothing in the world matters. like you don’t.
you’re stood in the doorway, arms crossed, watching him.
“you gonna keep ignorin’ me then?” you say finally, voice flat.
he doesn’t even look up straight away.
“i’m not ignorin’ you,” he mutters. “i’m on my phone.”
you let out a short, humourless laugh. “yeah. clearly.”
that tone makes him look up.
“what’s your problem now?”
like it’s just appeared out of nowhere.
like you haven’t been biting your tongue for weeks.
“my problem?” you step forward, slow, controlled. “you wanna know what my problem is?”
“go on then,” he shrugs, already defensive.
jakey lowers the volume on the tv. mikey leans forward slightly. heinz and chazza hover near the kitchen like they can feel what’s coming.
“my problem is that i’ve got a boyfriend who acts like i’m a fucking inconvenience.”
morgan’s expression shifts instantly. “oh, here we go—”
“no, don’t you dare ‘here we go’ me,” you snap, voice rising. “i’ve let you get away with that for too long.”
“get away with what? living my life?” he shoots back. “sorry i’m not glued to your side 24/7—”
“i never asked you to be!” you shout. “i asked you to give a shit!”
silence slams into the room.
heinz exhales under his breath. “fuck…”
morgan pushes himself off the counter, stepping closer. “i do give a shit.”
“no, you don’t,” you say instantly. “you say you do, but you don’t actually do anything that proves it.”
“what do you want me to do then?” he gestures, frustrated. “spell it out since i’m apparently so shit—”
“maybe start by actually choosing me for once!” you fire back. “instead of always picking literally anything else!”
“it is!” you cut him off. “every time i ask to spend time with you, there’s always something more important. the boys, your phone, your stupid fucking streams—everything comes before me!”
“they’re my mates!” he snaps. “what, you want me to ditch them for you?”
you stare at him, disbelief written all over your face.
“oh my god… you actually don’t hear yourself, do you?”
“what’s that supposed to mean?”
“i’m not asking you to ditch anyone,” you say, voice dropping but somehow sharper. “i’m asking you to not treat me like i’m at the bottom of your list.”
“you’re not at the bottom—”
“then where am i, morgan?” you challenge, stepping right up to him now. “go on. where do i come?”
and that hesitation? it burns.
you laugh, but there’s nothing nice about it. “yeah. exactly.”
“stop saying that!” you shout, losing the last bit of patience you had. “i’m not twisting anything, i’m telling you exactly how you make me feel!”
“well maybe you’re too fucking sensitive then!” he snaps back.
that one hits like a punch.
the room goes dead quiet.
even morgan looks like he regrets it for half a second—but it’s too late.
your expression changes completely.
“too sensitive,” you repeat slowly. “right.”
“no, don’t backtrack now,” you cut in, shaking your head. “say it with your chest. i’m too sensitive because i don’t like being ignored? because i don’t like feeling like i’m begging for my own boyfriend’s attention?”
“you are!” you shout. “you ignore my texts, you brush me off when i try to talk, you make plans without me—what would you call that then, morgan? huh?”
he runs a hand through his hair, frustrated. “you’re making it sound worse than it is—”
“because it is worse than you think!” you step closer again, voice shaking with how angry you are. “you don’t even notice what you’re doing to me!”
“oh, so now i’m some villain?” he scoffs. “fucking brilliant.”
“i didn’t say you were a villain,” you snap. “i said you’re a shit boyfriend.”
mikey winces. jakey mutters, “jesus…”
morgan’s jaw tightens. “right. if i’m so shit, why are you still here?”
like you’re the problem for staying.
“you know what? that’s a really good question.”
his frown deepens. “don’t start—”
“no, seriously,” you cut in, almost laughing now but it’s edged with something bitter. “why am i still here? why am i fighting this hard for someone who can’t even do the bare minimum for me?”
“i do more than the bare minimum—”
“no, you don’t!” you shout, voice cracking now with the force of it. “you give me scraps, morgan, and expect me to be grateful for it!”
“i have bent over backwards trying to make this work,” you go on, breathing heavy now. “i’ve been patient, i’ve been understanding, i’ve made excuses for you to everyone—and you can’t even meet me halfway!”
he looks away for a second, jaw clenched.
“you’re blowing it out of proportion.”
“oh my god… you really don’t care, do you?”
“no, you care about not being the bad guy,” you cut him off sharply. “that’s all this is. you don’t actually care about me—you care about how you look.”
“is it?” you step back, shaking your head. “because right now, you’re more focused on defending yourself than fixing anything.”
he opens his mouth, then closes it.
because he knows you’re right.
and that scares everyone.
“don’t,” he says quickly, stepping forward. “don’t do that dramatic ‘i’m done’ shit—”
“it’s not dramatic,” you say, grabbing your jacket. “it’s overdue.”
“you’re seriously ending it over this?” his voice raises again, but there’s something underneath it now—panic, maybe.
“it’s not over ‘this,’” you snap. “it’s over everything you’ve been ignoring.”
“so that’s it? you’re just walking out?”
you look at him, properly this time.
like you’re seeing him clearly for the first time in a while.
“yeah,” you say quietly. “i am.”
“fucking hell,” he laughs bitterly. “you’re unbelievable.”
“no,” you shake your head. “what’s unbelievable is how little effort you’ve put into someone who would’ve done anything for you.”
“you’ll regret this,” he throws out, last attempt, sharp and defensive.
and the look on your face?
it wipes the confidence straight off him.
“no,” you say, voice steady. “the only thing i regret is staying this long.”
that one cuts deeper than anything else you’ve said.
