“You left. I needed help. I needed help with the cloaking. I needed help with, um…with lots of other things, and someone to talk…through, at least,” Fitz all but shouted. 

The anguish on his face was painful to see, but how could he not see that there was another side to the story?

“What about what I needed?” Jemma asked, surprising herself with her own volume as her question rang out through the quiet lab.

Fitz looked at her warily out of the side of his eye and didn’t quite turn back to face her, sliding his hands up to his hips in what she knew was his ‘listening’ position. 

“I was there for you for months, Fitz.” Her tone was weepy and she didn’t like it one bit but there was no much she could do to stop it. “I cared for you day and night in the beginning. I was there for your therapies every single day.” 

She looked to the ceiling, trying to get hold of herself, reign in her feelings. “I was so busy making certain that you got every bit of care you needed, that I forgot to take care of myself most of the time.” Her voice grew strained and she started to get teary, despite her best efforts.

It’s me, your Fitzsimmons Secret Valentine! Today is the big day!

I hope you will enjoy your gift. I was hoping to add some smut to it, but honestly, I was a bit intimidated, because I know how amazing your smut always is. Soooo... I’d call what I’ve written “smut-adjacent” (I’m not even sure it deserves the M-rating I gave it ;) ).

Parts of the second chapter were actually inspired by one of your own posts. I hope you’ll noticed where I snuck in your ideas and hope you’ll like how I did it.

Not Beyond Repair 

Prompt:  Angsty feelings and true love, please!

Description:  An early Season 2 AU (that yet also manages to incorporate an alternate Maveth story--sans SpaceBF).

Sneak Peek: 

“Coulson wants to see you right away,” May had told her, but Jemma had to see him first.

She knew it wouldn’t be easy. She knew it must have been hard for him. But she had to see him, see how he had changed, improved, healed. He must have healed.

Coulson had never told her much during his visits, but Jemma held onto the hope that her decision had been right, that taking herself out of the equation would allow him to focus on himself and his recovery.

And then Hydra had figured out that they had a spy in their midst. And thanks to Raina, they knew exactly who that spy had been. Whitehall’s revenge had been to use Jemma as the rat for one of Hydra’s twisted experiments.

“Good luck, Dr. Simmons. You’ll need it,” he had said, smiling coldly, before closing the door in front of her, leaving her with nothing but a white cell and a black monolith. And then it dissolved, engulfed her, and took her… there. Hell. Death. Solitude.

Every Wednesday I have a dilemma: part of me says “yay, a new chapter of Countermeasures with glorious writing and twisty plots!” but the other part says “oh dear, another chapter of Countermeasures to wring my heart into a scrawny rag” and this chapter is no different. Poor Fitz (and poor Hanna, and poor Jemma when she finds out). Everyone is so miserable, and yet I can’t stop reading because it’s so well-observed and thought-through that I can’t help but hope that everything will come right in the end for all of them. Maybe not Jaeger. :)

Gosh, that was really rambling. Sorry! I’ve been trying for, like, three weeks to figure out how to word the comment I wanted to leave and obviously still didn’t figure it out. Suffice to say, I’m really enjoying this fic and look forward to it every week, even to the pain.

UPDATED: Chapter Fifteen Posted

What happens when Fitz and Simmons are loaned out by S.H.I.E.L.D. to work on the highly classified Stark/Foster Interplanetary Travel Project? So. Many. Things. Not the least of them being, having to confront their long-suppressed feelings for each other and—oh, yeah—trying to get back to Earth with nothing but their genius to save them. That is assuming they can keep their wits about themselves with all the—ahem—tension.

Here’s a snippet:

It wasn’t long before Fitz came out of the woods looking morning-grumpy.

“Good morning,” Jemma said cheerfully, then gritted her teeth against an onslaught of his ire when he darted a sudden scornful glance at her.

But it faded and he only sighed and said, “Mornin’, Simmons.”

“I’m afraid we’ve nearly run out of food,” she said, knowing it wouldn’t make matters any better for his mood if he didn’t eat. “There’s a bit left. Why don’t you have it?” She dug into her pack for the last of the hard bread and a few stray pieces of jerky and held it all out to him on a cloth.

He immediately shook his head, waving her off but she actually would far rather wait than endure his bellyaching over how he was starving to death. “Just take it, Fitz. I can endure missing one single meal far more contentedly than you can. We’ll have food in a few hours and I promise you, I’ll eat it. Alright?”

He sighed loudly and, nodding slowly, he finally took the meager offering of food, munching it discontentedly as he sat on the log bench by the newly blazing fire.

When he finished, without looking away from the flames, he said, “I don’t think we need to take everythin’ with us this time. I’ll repack one of the knapsacks with the essentials.”

“Alright,” she agreed, already anticipating exploring the alien village in the light of day.

While he busied himself with repacking, she filled their canteen pouches with the water she’d boiled.

He was just stashing their extra pack in a stand of bushes by the river when Jemma heard a noise. It was as if someone stepped on a tree branch. She tried to reason that it could’ve just been a creaking in the trees but, the way it echoed, it sounded off.

“Fitz?” she whispered harshly.

2. My Word is My Bond I think this is probably my fic with the broadest appeal. It’s an action/adventure with Jemma in the Bond role and Fitz as both Q and the person she’s trying to protect.

Safe Word. It’s just a short thing about how Jemma and Skye came up with Jemma’s safe word of “manscaping”. It was my first fanfic for this fandom. I’ve written others for other fandoms but they’re not posted anywhere.

I’ve been on hiatus for awhile but my most recent chapter posted was to Wanderlust. I’m working on the next chapter of My Word is My Bond right now. I’m slow but not giving up on my fics. I’m just busy these days. 

Your proudest fanfic:

I’d probably have to go with Countermeasures. It was only my third fanfic when I started it. I posted pretty faithfully every week for about nine months and it’s a novel. I still like a lot of what I wrote too. Amazingly enough.

Your longest fanfic:

Countermeasures by a lot, it’s 173229. My Word is My Bond is next and, at about half done, it’s coming in around 63k.

1. Countermeasures Again, this one was posted weekly for just so long.

2. Personal Space This one is pretty cute but also angsty and smutty. I think it’s a popular combo.

3. Let’s Do It This one is just a fun historical AU set in the 20s in Paris. How could that go wrong? Oh, and it’s so incredibly smutty. ;)

1. My Word is My Bond by a lot. I get a lot of requests to finish this one.

Top 3 crossover fics:

1. My Word is My Bond can sort of be considered a crossover with Bond but it’s really more of an AU. 

2. Wanderlust can sorta be considered a crossover with the Thor films since it takes place on other planets in the nine realms—including Asgard, eventually.

Those are both sorta stretching the definition of “crossover” but that’s all I got.

Your favorite character to write in a fanfic:

Fitz. It’s an easy answer. He’s my favorite. But I honestly love writing all of them. They each had their moments in Countermeasures that I just loved. Of course, I love writing Jemma too but she doesn’t come as easily for me as Fitz does.

A fic you love that is not mentioned above:

That is really difficult to answer. They’re all like my babies. I think one fic that I really thought came out fairly well was the Academy era fic Green-Eyed Monster. It was a sequel to one that @memorizingthedigitsofpi wrote called Happy Hallowe’en. I loved her fic and wrote a sequel that was meant to be one chapter and ended up being four and over 21k.

I also like Afraid of the Light, which I wrote for Pi’s birthday, and Wrong Time Coming, which was a horrible prompt from Pi. She challenged me to write Fitzsimmons having horrible sex. You can see she’s quite the terrible influence on me. Love you, girl. Even if your prompts are evil. :P 

There was also another short one I wrote that took place in S1 called Intelligent Discussion. Fitz and Simmons were explaining IQ tests to Skye and I really liked the characterization in that one. I just love all my babies! I can’t choose just one!
