okay so first of all, i'm obsessed with this song. i'm obsessed with hozier. i'm obsessed with this song. there is something so icnredible about this song as a call to action for the people around you & the people that have fought before you. you don't back down when you can do something for the world. allowing the suffering of others because it's not happening to you is the same as hurting them yourself.

which like, i feel like goes hand in hand w/ ' with great power comes great responsibility '. like if you have the capability, why wouldn't you do it? if you can do something good for another person, it is your responsibility to do so. it's how we grow as people, together, united & stronger for it. which is like the core of peter's character. even if there are sacrifices, even if it costs him he is going to do what he can to change people's lives for the better.

i also headcanon that spider-man is involved in different forms of activism. spider-man is a symbol of hope & hope is what inspires people to do something for their world. i headcanon he's espeically active in the queer community, he attends rallies, pride events, protests as an openly trans superhero & uses his voice to advocate for his community there. though he was incredibly lucky with his family & the way his aunt & uncle helped him start & through his transition, he knows it's not like that for everyone. he knows that some kids have to fight to be seen. to be heard. he wants them to see him & know he's listening, you know?

something i really try to emphasize for peter is that he's a 'friendly neighborhood' spider-man. that means he stands with the neighborhood when they're standing up for themselves you know? so though this sentiment isn't limited to queer spaces that is the space he gravitates to you know?

i especially love this song because like - it emphasizes that you cannot passively observe injustice in the world bcs that is what keeps it happening. you have to rise up & above the standards & expectations to do something good for the people of your community, city, country, world... ect. like peter has tried to put down the mask a handful of times & could not keep it down because he has the power to stop it. idk idk i feel like this song has a lot of the core concepts of spider-man as a character & the song also feels like a soul i'm in love with it

the young man stands at the rooftop for one split second, for a moment, he thought he had been caught by bruce. his eyes are concealed by the mask, but he is grateful it’s not bruce but catwoman herself. even if he had been warned to cross path with the woman (according to alfred, things were complicated with bruce), jason looks down at the criminal on the ground, now unconscious. “i had it handle but thanks.” and he finally speaks, cleaning up the broken lip he had. he knows he shouldn’t, as the guy was now down and not being able to fight pack, but he still kicks the man’s body with maybe too much force. not that he has a care for the criminal. “so you are not going to tell batman about this, are you?” and he looks back at the woman, a little skip on his feet, hands on his hips. “i’m not supposed to be out without his approval.”

Blue eyes snapped over to the woman cautiously, even as he felt his other shift against his skin. Too many people here, Eddie, he warned, concerned. Ready to fight, but reluctant. “You should get out of here while the going’s still good,” Eddie said to the woman instead of answering his partner. The symbiote knew they were on the same page, even if he didn’t respond.

selina doesn't really think twice about it. from behind, winding her arms over his shoulders and around his neck, burying her face into the crook of it. leaning her weight into his, it's a moment of silence and intimacy she desperately needs.

[ 竜 ] – She makes no effort to hide the sound of her footsteps, though he knows she can. She’s a dangerous person to have at your back, and he knows it, yet as he hears the distinct shuffle of someone who puts their weight on their toes, he finds no apprehension.

Though the gesture is not something Genji expected, he does not shy away from it, even as Selina buries her face against the corded synthetic sinew of his neck, perhaps the only place that gave an illusion of softness on his body. He yeilds, he lets it happen, and he shoulders the brunt of her weight with planted feet.

“Is something bothering you, Nyanko-chan?” his voice remains low, and soft, despite the lighthearted tone. There’s genuine concern there, but he knows better than to push for what isn’t offered.
