Women in Mahabharata - Kubja
She is a woman working in Kamsa's palace, who supplied his sandalwood paste. She encounters Krishna when he comes to Mathura, and Krishna fixes her hunchback in exchange for some of her patented fragrance.
Out of gratitude, Kubja invites Krishna to her residence (she is also the mistress of a business of the world's oldest profession), but Krishna defers it out of embarrassment since Balarama is within earshot (and not invited).
Later, he takes Udhhava (as his innocent alibi) and visits her home, and they begin a on-again-off-again relationship which continues until the Yadava leaders move away to Dwarika.
She is also known as Trivakra and Anekavakra in the Puranic retellings. Bhasa has treated her with comparatively greater respect, and named her Madanika instead of defining her only by her disability.
