I just reread ch 9 of fools gold - are you ok to answer some of the fandom OC asks about Grandpa Hatake?
I was going to ask how he felt about Tobirama, but then I found the chapter where you actually talked about that, lol.
Which canon characters did Grandpa Senju respect?
Which did he ever have a crush on, if any?
And what does he think of his grandson, Kakashi?
Thank youuu, and thanks for writing the latest chapter of Fool's Paradise
Yeah sure of course ❤️ I don't think I've actually named him in any of the Kill the Lights series, now that I think of it? But Grandpa Hatake's name is Minoru, fun fact.
He held a lot of respect for both Tobirama and Hashirama. The founding of Konoha was a pivotal part of his life, and though he had a lot of challenges and had very little freedom even after their clans came together, joining the village was the first time he ever had any stability in his life. He also had great respect for Madara early on (before you-know-what happened) for similar reasons, though they didn't get to speak much after he married into the Senju.
He had a crush on Hashirama, actually;; Hashirama was very lively and positive, and whenever he was around, the daunting tasks of building and maintaining their village didn't feel so overwhelming. While he respected Tobirama, they couldn't find much common ground, so he only had that respect. They were amiable after their clans joined, but living with Tobirama was a duty, not a choice.
Kakashi worried him. He was the only grandbaby, didn't get on well with kids his age, and was generally antisocial. By the time Kakashi was born, all of Minoru's siblings and cousins were dead, and their clan grounds were desolate. Sakumo showed zero interest in continuing the line, and then, suddenly, there was a woman in his life, then a kid, and Sakumo kept him in the dark for most of it. He was resentful for a long time. But Kakashi was smart, even if he was difficult. He was quiet and well-mannered (well, sorta). Minoru taught him how to read, and Kakashi used to sit with him while he maintained the gardens or did upkeep on the secondary buildings of the estate.
From Kakashi's POV, you might think their relationship was nasty, because a lot of bad memories stick with him as he gets older. A majority of their time together wasn't like that, though. Minoru was the one who stayed up with him when he had nightmares, put him to bed when his parents were on missions, and would answer his million-and-one questions. The lessons that Kakashi struggles with in Fool's Gold weren't given out of malice, but because he was raised on different values, and those were the things he thought Kakashi would need to know to grow up well and live a good life. He also hoped that before he died, he might get to see their clan grow again, even just a bit. He wished he could show Kakashi what it used to look like before the Hatake died out. If he lived longer, they might have been able to work out their differences, but that never happened.
Tl;dr: He adored Kakashi, even if Kakashi grew up to resent him and doesn't remember it well.
