The trio being WOKE !!!1!1
I've never really understood the popularity of trio revenge fics given how nasty their actual comeuppance was in canon.
Like here's the thing, Emma, Sophia, and Madison are shitty people (more so in Sophia's case with her shadow stalker stuff). But ultimately they're only shitty to the extent that asshole teens can be, and are kinda small fries in the grand scheme of worm.
Don't get me wrong, they're definitely fucked up, and I do actually think are worse than some people give them credit for. Isolating and harassing a girl until she's completely alone, has had her grades destroyed, will eventually drop out of school, and is passively suicidal is evil.
But I've never felt the need to see them get "dunked on" given how shit things went for them.
I mean, Emma had a mental breakdown and was too scared to leave her room for presumably two straight years. To the point she couldn't evacuate and died in golden morning.
And Sophia got exposed for all of her bad deeds (including the bullying), got thrown under the bus by Piggot, sent to juvie, and abandoned by her friends and family.
It's hard to think of more nasty poetic fates than the girl who tried to isolate Taylor being trapped in her room for the rest of her life, and the girl who hurt people thinking she was untouchable getting exposed and imprisoned by the same institutions that protected her.
I've never seen a revenge fic match canon without being weirdly gratuitous in a way that's just unpleasant to read. Why write fics about them getting extreme, over the top punishments when they've already got them.
(Madison did get off easy, felt remorse, and is trying to improve as a person. But even she got called out for being an asshole two years later.)
Started working on this a while ago but now I want to pick it back up again
This is the WIP of the recap so far, I hope to lock in and finish the rest eventually
Browbeat’s Bizarre Retcon: Diamond is Retroactively Breakable
I wanted to try and make the diamond/checkerboard thing work but I do not think I succeeded. Wanted to mix in some extra elements so its not just pure spandex (anti spandex agenda) and break up the pattern.
It’s kinda interesting how most other deaths to Leviathan create a feeling of “what if” regarding things like Aegis’ role if Skitter died, or if Gallant could’ve helped prevent Amy and Victoria’s fate (Especially with how much his death is brought up in Ward). Browbeat meanwhile originally survived but got retconned into being dead, and almost nothing else in the story changes. Kinda wish he had an interlude or something like the other Wards, pre-retcon at least, feel like it would’ve been interesting to read his perspective on leaving Brockton Bay.
sophia 😞 everyday i think about a worm in which you were handled with more grace 😞 oh emma and madison are here too ig
Worm AU where instead of Emma, Sophia, and Madison, Taylor is bullied by Hatsune Miku.
That’s have 70% shipping fanfiction feel like with Taylor Hebert and her bully’s.
good parahumans fic of the present
I always wish in hindsight that I had done something like this, so I'm starting now! there's a few stories i'm eagerly reading each update of.
instead of Tilt and Peasant showing opposite sides of a Taylor-Wards coin, would you believe that there are two Lisa Joins the Wards fics that each started this month?
Unauthorised Access by ghostlied you can remember as the Lisa-as-Vixen one. I'm particularly interested in this view of power-testing, and how Lisa's power and persona might develop with a support structure intent on making her not solely reliant on her power! Piggot, Colin, and Ethan are major supporting characters, and Calvert is playing a different game than the one we expect.
Curiosity by SilviaNorton has Lisa joining the wards under less safe circumstances, and saddled with the Curiosity Killed the Cat theme. This is likely to be more harrowing, but does feature Crystal Pelham if that's something that appeals to you! And Lisa-Victoria sniping. We'll see if satisfaction can bring Curiosity back.
Hive by lifebaka is the fic I'm most earnestly excited for, as it tells an alternate post-Leviathan story of girls being desperate, difficult, and human. It's an AU on a few elements, but its specificity of groups of people trying to recover and build a civil society, where powers are present but fights are the least wanted thing in the world, is kind of astonishing.
Madison Clements has an Unusual Power (And she's going to be a Hero!) by Nox_Penumbra is the feel-good fic of the bunch, and it's at 400k and counting! The best comparison I have for it is Inheritance, but it's much, much slower in its escalation and in the rate at which the cast expands. Mover Madison is at her finest-ever here, and the consequences of choosing to be an unambiguous capital-G Good Person are fascinating to trace. Taylor's guy-in-the-chair role here is novel but somehow doesn't feel out of character. Nepenthe by kkopi is the Uh-Oh fic of this bunch and also the newest (having started last week). It's Amy with Amnesia following the S9 being chased out of Brockton — how much of the OG canon is canon here is yet to be seen, but all Amy knows is that Skitter knows everything, and she can't stop her dreams about the mysterious villain. How well she can keep healing as a Ward in a broken city will remain to be seen as the mystery plays out.
