Madolche Puddingcess 👑
Madolche Puddingcess, for @magicandwizardszine, 2018
Madolche Puddingcess
“If this card in your possession is destroyed by your opponent’s card (by battle or card effect) and sent to your Graveyard: Shuffle this card into the Deck. While you have no monsters in your Graveyard, this card gains 800 ATK and DEF. After damage calculation, when this card battles an opponent’s monster: You can target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy that target.”
Madolche Puddincess/Madolche Puddingcess
Madolche Nights ———————————————— When a monster effect is activated, if you have no monsters in your Graveyard: Negate the activation, then if you control "Madolche Puddingcess", shuffle 1 random card from your opponent's hand into the Deck. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy (LTGY-EN076), 2014 Mega-Tin Mega Pack (MP14-EN051)
Archetypes often works arround mechanics that under normal circumstances would hurt the entire build. However, these groups usually provide effects that either works arround any potential demerits or take advantage of their situation. As a result, in compensation of any disadvantages over other Decks they might obtain poweful effects and bonuses that keeps them on the lead.
"Madolche Nights" is a Counter Trap that could be played outside its archetype if wasn't for its restrictive requirement. The Trap allows us to negate the activation of a monster effect, but to do so we must have a Graveyard empty of monsters. On the bright side, if we control "Madolche Puddingcess" when this card is played we can make the opponent return a card on the opponent's hand back to their Deck. While nowadays there's quite a bunch of methods to negate effects with, "Madolche Nights" is easier to play arround with or without the assistance of "Puddingcess" to further improve its effectiveness.
Obviously the best way to assure the activation of "Madolche Nights" is inside the Madolche archetype, a build that constantly avoids their monsters from piling together in the Graveyard. While their own destruction makes them return to our Deck, cards like "Madolche Hootcake" and "Madolche Queen Tiaramisu" will use those resting in our Graveyard as cost of their own abilities. As they have the Graveyard perfectly covered by staple effects they can focus on the summon of "Puddingcess" to obtain the second effect of "Madolche Nights", easily achieved by effects like "Madolche Mewfeuille" and the mentioned "Hootcake" Special Summoning her without risking tributing sending a monster to the Graveyard by a tribute. But if you don't care much about the effect obtained with "Puddingcess" is quite possible for "Madolche Nights" to be played outside its archetype, ranging from Pendulum Monsters since they often go to our Extra Deck to playing arround cards like "Dimensional Fissure" banishing monsters.
While might seem "Madolche Nights" isn't as impressive as alternatives with easier conditions, the Trap Card has some small yet important advantages over the competition. The obvious one is with the pressence of "Madolche Puddingcess", severely damaging the opponent further by losing a card in the process. As a Counter Trap "Madolche Nights" becomes quite hard to be stopped, almost assuring we make a halt to the opponent's plays and setups. The last but most important factor is that "Madolche Nights" affects any monster effect during a Duel, therefore able to affect monsters with abilities activated from places like the opponent's hand or Graveyard.
"Madolche Nights" is a solid defensive tool thanks to its status as Counter Trap and affecting any monster effect with no exceptions, but that is if we can keep its conditions to be activated. While the second effect arround "Madolche Puddingcess" can be dismissed to the point the card can be played outside the archetype, as pointed out there are many other ways we can stop a monster's effect and even destroy the source in the process. With the dominant pressence of Effect Monsters there are plenty of options to stop their abilities in one way or another on the spot without requiring a whole Deck arround their activation, and that's "Madolche Nights" biggest problem as can become a dead card under certain Duels. While the card has the potential to become powerful with its outcome and chance to use its second effect, there are simpler ways to simply negate an effect without investing the entire Deck arround them.
Personal Rating: B-
+ Negates a monster's effect including those activated outside the field + If "Madolche Puddingcess" is on the field will force the opponent to shuffle a card in their hand + Able to be played along Pendulum Monsters and banishing mechanics
- Can only be activated if there are no monsters in our Graveyard - There are simpler methods to negate a monster effect - Requires a whole Deck to assure its activation
