what is the sunset quartet?

it is the name i made for the rarepair that consists of gakushuu asano, yuuma isogai, karma akabane, and hiroto maehara from the anime/manga: assassination classroom

they're my ocs now fuckers

will there be other ships?

yes! this blog is for all assclass rarepairs but will mostly focus on the sunset quartet, isosano (isogai x asano), maekabane (maehara x karma), and isokaru (isogai x karma)

tho this blog is mostly for romantic pairs, there will be posts about platonic/familial relationships as well

okay so like, my isosano where they were like friends since first year junior high? yeah i have a whole au about it in my head stirring around that i'd like to talk about, im not sure if these contradict my fic but like i did that fic months ago and then these thoughts started stirring after

so like,,, before junior high, isogai, maehara, hazama, and akabane all knew each other, theyre a friend group but maehara and akabane are super close that theyve become super gay for each other but as akabane becomes more violent he starts to distance himself from them, unofficially leaving the group during first year junior high

then isogai and asano become secret friends but then his father died so he started to distance himself too, which leaves maehara and hazama mostly being there for each other until maehara finds out about isosano and then tells hazama and the trio is a trio again but no akabane until third year first term finals where maehara talks to akabane privately to comfort him about his drop in rank to which akabane tries to push him away and maehara just snaps and yells some needed truth at him.

so during okinawa arc, akabane sees maehara is sick and panics because he hasn't apologized yet and hes still very gay for him. then after his fight with grip, isogai scolds him for being so reckless and that maehara would be extremely worried once he heard this. this kinda reignites isogai and akabane's friendship. then blah blah after everyone recovers, the quartet just sits together watching the sunrise as they talk friendship and become a full friend group again!!!

this leads to plenty of maekabane matchmaking from the other two, and after the pole toppling tournament, akabane finds out about isosano and joins the isosano matchmakers that consist of maehara, hazama, and sakakibara

so now the friend group gains two new members (asano and sakakibara) and some honorary members (the rest of the big five and the terasaka gang) who occasionally join in on their shenanigans, sometimes unwillingly

maehara and akabane get together during the valentines episode, and isogai and asano get together during third year highschool, while sakakibara and hazama are single and would like to stay single forever

this is how i would hc the sunset quartet to get together

maekabane and isosano would already be a thing, maekabane got together during summer break in third year junior high while isosano got together sometime in third year highschool

tw/ karma's and yuuma's shitty mental health and suicide mention

isobane has had a weird relationship ever since they reconnected when they were both in 3E. yuuma did not like karma at all and was very open about his distaste, to which karma just,, accepts because yeah he *did* leave his friend group with no explanation whatsoever.

this would lead to post first term finals where yuuma just rubs karma's downfall in his face which leads to an argument between them and karma asking (yelling) why yuuma hates him so much leads to yuuma yelling at him for leaving them and how lucky karma is to allow himself to be lazy because he has the money anyways and yuuma then yells about how overworked and tired he feels and how he wishes he could just end everything and finally rest and be with his father. that he did try to end everything during second year, only for hiroto, kirara, and gakushuu to save him.

karma just stares and think of his own life, how tired he is of being lonely, of his parents neglecting him, its why he resorted to violence, maybe the bad behavior would gain their attention for once. it did not. he thought of his own suicide attempt that doubled as an assassination attempt. he remembered hiroto's horrified face when karma was brought back up, how hiroto couldnt stop saying "not again. not again. not again." over and over no matter how much karma tried to remind him that he's okay, that he's alive. was this why?

karma looked at yuuma, who was still yelling, who now was sobbing, and realized how both of them have been suffering so much, they were just children who grew up too fast. karma looked at yuuma and hugged him, which made the latter stop, and absolutely melt into the hug, crying loudly.

after this moment, the two of them were friends again. they were close, the only ones who knew the most of each other's pains. and they grew closer during the okinawa arc, when their friends, kirara and hiroto, both got ill. yuuma was terrified at the thought of losing more people in his life, and karma knew he was terrified, he knew that if they did die, yuuma would absolutely go mad from grief. so karma was determined to get that antidote. yuuma scolded karma after he fought the assassin, grip, but karma noticed the genuine sadness in his tone, and how soft and scared he sounded. he always stood beside yuuma after that, a hand on the other's shoulder to remind him he is still here.

after what happened, karma visited yuuma's room to find the latter sobbing, he immediately rushed to his side. yuuma begged karma to stay the night. they slept in the same bed, holding each other tight, afraid to lose each other.

even after hiroto and karma got together, the two were close, which made hiroto joke about how it sometimes feels like karma and yuuma were the ones dating and not them. it made karma think but he quickly let that thought go. he loves hiroto, has been loving him for years. he should not be thinking about another guy like that. yuuma is just a close friend of his, thats all.

then valentines day came along, with yuuma teasing karma to go and give his chocolates to hiroto, to which karma just becomes incredibly flustered. despite dating for months now, karma still gets easily flustered at any romantic gesture, whether it would be hiroto kissing him or just simple hand-holding. when karma finally gives the chocolates to hiroto, yuuma cheers yet his heart is not. he is unsure of what he was feeling but he brushed it off, happy to see the couple be so lovey-dovey with each other.

years later, maekabane and isosano would go on double dates together and hiroto and gakushuu would notice how karma and yuuma would act sometimes. they'd share looks only the two would understand, they would be physically intimate at times. the way that they would look at each other cannot be explained by platonic friendship. whenever gakushuu would ask yuuma if he romantically likes karma, yuuma would deny and tell shuu that he loves him and would never cheat on him. the same would happen with hiroto and karma.

hiroto and shuu know that their boyfriends love them plenty, they've shown that time and time again. the two have talked about this together and realize that they wouldn't mind karma and yuuma dating each other as well, it was clear to them that their boyfriends love each other and they want them to not hide it anymore.

so hiroto and gakushuu talk to karma and yuuma and have an open discussion and isobane realize theyre poly while maesano dont realize that are yet until later but i dont have enough brain juice anymore

so basically isosano, maekabane, and isobane are a thing, while maeiso, karushuu, and maesano are not because hiroto and gakushuu dont realize theyre poly as well, and karma and yuuma dont realize also like each other's boyfriends as well

but they'll get there at some point
