rhaenyra placed a bounty on maelor's head, causing his death. which then caused helaena to commit suicide. maelor and hel's death are 100% on rhaenyra. how convenient for her that maelor was cut from the show.

It's kind of funny that GRRM spent half his blog post explaining the butterfly effect, and conceded that Maelor isn't really a huge character but that his death was a catalyst for larger things happening with Helaena and Rhaenyra that were important to the story, only for a lot of fans to end up saying stuff like "why does george care about baby targ one million that doesn't do anything before dying"

The way I still see TB try and explain why Maelor wasn't needed makes me sick, as they conveniently forget why he is need.

They always say something like "he only had a couple pages in the story! I swear i forgot he existed!" Like cool good for you but I didn't. I remembered the 2 year old boy who had nothing to do with a war get cut to pieces because of Rhaenyra, I remembered the way it destroyed Helaena to the point she killed herself. But that's fine you can forget about this meaningless boy who had nothing to do with the story. But me and the rest of TG will!
