Breathe through the pain, try to open your eyes; rinse and repeat.
The pained expression as they rode back to the walls never left his face, each bump on the road only caused more pain. A broken arm, several broken ribs, a severe head injury and possible lost vision in one eye; despite all of that though he was alive, he was still breathing and that was what mattered right? So many had lost their lives to that...damn thing.
Jaw clenching slightly, head resting on his own cloak as they rode to the military hospital located in Sina. Erd couldn't remember much, there was pain right now, so much pain he didn't know if was living or dying it even hurt to breathe. Head turning slightly, with much effort that nearly exhausted him he could see them all next to him, they'd survived broken but they had survived and it was easy for him to slip off after that.
Losing himself in dreams that once meant everything to him, dreams of what was waiting for him at home. A smile that lit up his entire life, his reason for fighting, his reason for defending humanity and wanting to return home to her loving embrace each time.

There was a knock at her door with hardly any time to explain one of the soldier's was quickly trying to explain of Erd's severe injuries, his status, and where he was being kept. Elaine had seen this soldier before, Erd had spoken of him in high regards countless times before; what was his name? Mike..Mike Zakarius, but none of that mattered now.
The look of pure horror and heartbreak washed over her, she didn't waste another moment only running back inside to tell his mother of the situation before she was climbing on the wagon with his help. He had said they would only allow one to go with him, and they decided it would be her due to not putting his mother through the same pain she had gone through when his father was killed.
The ride to Sina was quiet, she was shaking not from the bumpy roads or their speed, but the fear because they had no idea if he was going to make it out alive. His injuries were that severe, she could only hope and pray that things would be alright...he was strong he would pull through. Erd would never surrender to an injury if he had been left breathing he would still fight.
It was nightfall by the time they reached the hospital, having traveled as fast as they could. Not wanting to stop for anything more than a break for the horses, the nurses mentioning that he wasn't even awake. He hadn't woken up since they'd brought him, but he was cleaned up and bandaged properly.
An examination from the doctor told her that he would survive but his injuries could prevent him from fighting again much to her relief no doubt. Stepping to the side they allowed her entry into the room he was staying in, telling her not to expect much from him for a few hours give or take a day from the amount of blood loss and sheer trauma of the situation.

A bandaged head, numerous bandages and gauze on his face, over his eye. Arm in a sling and leg propped up upon a pillow, there were most likely more injuries that were unknown to her just yet, but his chest rose and fell steadily and that alone could have been the reassurance she was looking for.
