Ever since my first stay in Ghana I started to see that clothes are made to celebrate the body, to enhance the beauty that is already there. It doesn't matter what body type you have, clothing is made for our bodies- and not the other way around! Celebrate what you have, enhance the beauty God, mama and papa have you! Here, in Europe (and the States) there is a lot of social pressure on our bodies: we have to literally 'fit in'. As a tall girl I felt too tall for years, since none of the clothing fitted me right: I never wore a dress because it would be a mini dress, I got creative with the length of trousers, because they too short, nothing reaches my (high) waistline and so forth. I often am literally too tall! For me it resulted in unnecessary insecurity for a long time. I want to wear heels too, not to be taller but to be sexy and feminine!
Because I'm tired of the bs society, and us people in society, is telling us I started designing. Designing is a way for my to share stories, to show and communicate what I stand for, what I believe in.
This first mini collection allowed my to express two of my beliefs/concerns: (1) show them what you got and (2) this is African print too. We are too narrow minded when it comes to our vision of what could be, or is, African... and tall girls take over.
