-the corpses open their eyes <-they're not supposed to do that :(
-they may or may not start singing
-the spooky deserter is about to kill our guy, but then someone kills the deserter
post-statement:
-Martin hates recording statements
-Martin did this one because Melanie wants him to look into war-related things
-Basira was just sitting silently in the room reading. while Martin was talking about how much he's worried about Jon.
-Basira's a very fast reader
-and also extremely chill about being a hostage
Oh...?
god i love basira. she’s literally being held hostage indefinitely but within the first week she goes “these books are super interesting so might as well read them while i’m trapped here :)” she’s so fucking real

i thought this was gonna go a lot worse bc i don't really like the war-related statements but it was surprisingly fun to draw :D
basira reading an alchemy book...
I think it's fascinating how MAG 95 portrays the Slaughter as a Fear that follows you home, even after you've left the battlefield. I feel like it's very representative of traumatic mental illness. (PTSD is probably what Jonny was aiming for.) The level of commradery and community present in the statement is as a wonderful thematic contrast to the violence and really reminds us what these soldiers are fighting to protect.
I gotta say, this statement was lost on me and this is the first time I've actually listened to it carefully. You're absolutely right. Also a fascinating combination of various fears witg a strangely melancholic tone, love how war is portrayed in this podcast as complex and simple all at once
