Hi Mystic, I recently purchased myself a new snake plant as a gift for completing my move across the state for work. You see, I've finally settled in and thought that a snake plant would really tie the whole place together. However, I'm starting to become worried that I may not have gotten the right plant after all. This morning, I found the flower pot completely empty. Concerned that maybe my ferret got into it, I went around the house looking for the plant. I found it with its roots wrapped around my bedside lamp. I've since returned it to the pot and cleaned up the dirt around my house, but I'm afraid. I heard the ceramic rattle of the planter a couple minutes ago. My ferret is here with me, the only other living thing in the house is that darn plant. What should I do?
Don't worry that is perfectly natural. It sounds like you have a Strangler Snake Plant. The name is misleading since it comes from its tendency to wrap around tall objects. This isn't a threat to living things as the object must be still. It probably chose your lamp since it was the best source of light in the room. If you would rather not have it on your lamp I would suggest buying a pole and placing it near a window.
Signed,
J. Mika
