Summary: If Callie is meant to be with Arizona and Cristina is meant to be with Owen but Callie and Owen are married with kids then something must change. The status quo must shift. A continuation of 8x13 "If/Then."

Summary: Sometimes there is no link between cause and effect. Sometimes it is just the natural world bearing down on you and devastating everything in its path. A sequel to the Alternate Universe episode, "If/Then" and Another Statement of Causality. Callie and Arizona are at a loss with how to make it work with three kids. Cristina and Owen are blindly moving forward damned the costs.

when you find the kind of fanfic that is so perfect, so wonderful that you forget you’re even reading words, reading fanfic at all but simply experiencing a great story.

And you know better, because it is unfinished, and hasn’t been updated since July. But you fall desperately in love with it anyway.

(it’s this supercat au by maggiemerc by the way. I want to cry. I can’t believe I can’t read more. I don’t think I’ve been this devastated since I reached the never-to-be-finished ending on goldflecks’s rizzles wip. It’s that good.)

and then you feel guilt at your own unfinished rizzles wip. which you know is one of the best fics you’ve written (though not the best thing you’ve written, because you did quit that fic to finish your real novel), because you added layers and thought and actual work to it. and you wonder if you elicited this same feeling of sad helplessness in a reader. if I didn’t hate Angie Harmon so much right now (when I look at Jane she’s all I can see), I’d be finishing my abandoned rizzles fic. because my fic-writing superpowers are back for now. But is anyone reading rizzles still? does anyone care? I’m hardly a BNF.

The moral of this post is - maggiemerc, you are a gift. I hope the reason you suddenly stopped writing fanfic was because you were too bogged down in writing a brilliant novel to bother with other people’s characters. Because I think you are truly something.

How’d all that kryptonite get to Earth already?

Bear with me for a second here. Credit where credit is due - I started thinking about this after reading the most recent chapter (10) of maggiemerc’s fic (sorry, it won’t let me @ you) I Can Do This (which I’m enjoying, btw) so it’s entirely possible there’s some meta about this that I missed (link me to it if so?)

All these theories will address show canon, not the fic.

But it mades absolutely no sense that there would be significant quantities of kryptonite on Earth already if a) Krypton is, as Kara claims in the show, 2000 lightyears away and b) Krypton was destroyed roughly 36 years ago, given that it’s probably safe to assume that the debris from Krypton is travelling at significantly less than the speed of light.

Possible explanations that occur to me (I am not a physicist):

Kara is wrong - Krypton was much, much closer than that (in the comics I believe it’s supposed to be around 27 lightyears which is more plausible but that’s still relatively close to the speed of light). This also makes it more lightly that a significant quantity would get to Earth.

it’s been much, much longer than 36 years since Krypton exploded (as in, Kara and Clark were travelling much slower than the speed of light)

Some debris got dragged along, somehow, with one or both of the pods

Some debris went through a wormhole and thereby got to Earth faster than if it had travelled in a straight line

or maybe it just went through the Phantom Zone? That’s kind of like a wormhole right?

Krypton was spewing kryptonite long before it exploded, and the stuff has a long half-life

there is or was another source of kryptonite, other than Krypton. maybe it even occurs naturally on Earth and everything we know is a lie! maybe it’s actually all artificial! who know?

someone took kryptonite from Krypton at some point in the past and brought it or sent it to Earth, for whatever reason

time travel??? idk

It’s also possible for several explanations to be true.
