Hilarious reminder that Zachary Zatara had to come out as straight and monogamous to his parents.
Zatanna and John still aren’t sure how they made a straight kid, but they love him all the same 😂

Does Viren actively abuse his children? I think he neglects them but I have experienced emotional abuse and gaslighting. Aside from the time Viren lied to Soren to make him think he misunderstood when he didn't, (under Aaravos' advisement) I haven't seen him actively doing it.... Or are there different intensities to abuse, and Viren's is low intensity? People say Viren abuses Claudia, which confuses me even more because he always trusts, defends and respects her.
I don't have experience with abuse as a child, and what I do know is from a very different situation than the dynamic the magicfam has. But I think the best way to measure abuse is not what it looks like or how violent it is. It's the magnitude of impact it has on the victim. If your experiences with a person change you deeply in a negative way because of their beliefs and attitudes toward who you are and what you represent to them, it doesn't matter if they hit you or not. A person can deliberately abuse with the constant pressure of expectations and opinions stated as facts, as if the other person is automatically wrong and needs to do all the work of "improvement" or "conforming".
But saying things loudly, often, and with ringing conviction has exactly zero impact on being right.
I know it's my own experiences talking here, but the more insistent someone is on their single approach being the only right one, the less likely I am to consider them emotionally developed enough to safely interact with. It's okay to give yourself permission to nope out when something raises a red flag like that. It can happen for many reasons, and not all of them are even bad. Actual children can sound this way and it's just because they're too young to have learned nuance yet. But if it's a weak spot, you gotta protect yourself from unnecessary stress.
Viren doesn't really trust, defend, or respect Claudia, in my mind. He just trusts what he's made her into: a loyal minion. He turned on Soren the moment it served his purpose. And that's after he did some really big dark magic stuff to save his life when he was younger. He may not see what he's doing as abuse in general, and he definitely wouldn't agree that he's doing it specifically. But if you're hurting someone, you don't get to tell them that you aren't. That's their call.
Viren's been twisted by dark magic even when he used it for the purest of reasons. Like the One Ring. He did love his kids once. But his choices have led him slowly toward a place where ideas outweigh the lives involved in them. When you can't grasp the concept of empathy anymore, everything you do is potentially a form of abuse.
So you get quick head canon time because I’ve always felt Cherry and Bruce would have a close friendship but after the first episode of She-Hulk I’ve finally got a better grasp of what that looks like.
Cherry probably gets to know Bruce best after the Stark family because he’s constantly around as Tony tries to help him.
They don’t get super close at first, although there is an awkward kindred vibe between them. Bruce is hesitant to get to close to Cherry because 1) he’s worried if he hulks out around her he’ll hurt her or terrify her 2) he’s actually worried some of her trauma might trigger him
However, friends of Tony must be friends with each other so they find each other in their circle more and more. Cherry channels most of her anxious energy into cooking and Bruce needs to eat a voracious amount for his hulk metabolism so they do end up eventually getting warming up to each other and talking.
Bruce is constantly surprised that Cherry is much smarter than she looks. She may not be able to solve an equation like him or Tony, but she has spent the last good portion around geniuses (Norman, Tony, and now himself) and recognizes a lot of lingo and what she doesn’t recognize she can quickly pick up if the boys explain it. (This later happens with Stephen as well as a lot of Norman’s interest were medical/body enhancement and she’s familiar with a lot of medical lingo. She’s a very good listener)
Tony absolutely takes Cherry to Bruce’s island on Mexico as they build the bar. It is also where Cherry gets her taste for tiki drinks.
Cherry probably becomes closer to Bruce than Thor after the Blip since Thor really shuts everyone out. Bruce probably is around Cherry quite a bit and is a big instigator between her and Wong getting together (because yes, I absolutely love the HC of Wong being the one to teach Bruce a bunch of his meditation techniques and I love that Bruce sees them as Science and Stephen Strange saw them as quackery. Give me this parallel)
There is also the fact that Bruce and Cherry would mourn Nat and Tony deeply (whether you ship them or not they were still good friends and colleagues) and Bruce would also be a crucial part to Cherry’s healing as well as Wong.
I do see present Bruce and Cherry having a very fun and sarcastic relationship. She’s probably the most relaxed around Bruce. They are able to share deep and melancholy moments with one another without feeling like they are burdening the other.
Bruce hates Ward Meachum with a passion. He’s glad Tony didn’t tell him what happened until it was over or he would have probably over reacted and lost his cool even as smart hulk as he has very little restraint for abusers. (Summary for those who don’t know/havent read my short stories: before the blip, Cherry dated a reformed Ward Meachum who, after losing Danny and Joy in the Blip, went back to his addictions and was gas lighting Cherry and starting to get rough with her. When Tony found out he had Cherry cut off times with Ward. Ward found her one night and things went VERY badly. Tony kicked Ward’s ass and threatened to kill him if he ever got near her again)
Did Bruce call Cherry over several times during Jen’s Hulk training so they didn’t have to live off microwaved pancakes and alcohol: absolutely.
Do I want Cherry and Jen to becomes friends: absolutely
I will add more to this as more She-Hulks come out and we get more Wong and just more Jen and MCU lore.
💞!
There are so many things I adore about our beloved feral sorcerer. The most being how layered and how well thought out he is.
On the surface he is an eldritch tentacled monstrosity, but those that know him best know that he is honestly just a very very tired man who misses the taste of pizza and coffee and desperately wants a nap.
magic family being casual for once. @amvlett
John and Zatanna have a son? Someone cooked here
I forget what universe Hes from, but he is a canon character! Usually Zachary is Zatanna’s cousin, but in one universe, he is her and John’s son.
I pretty much took that universe and made them happy :
Lookit John! Hes so at peace!
