New pictures of Rune, after her restyling! I gotta admit, these photos were very frustrating to get. I did a dumb with her wig, that I can't undo, and now she keeps throwing her wig and it won't stay in place. I'm going to add velcro onto the back of her head and inside the wig to keep the dang wig in place.

I didn't mind her old faceups too much, but they were not quite right. Her name is Rune after all, and I wanted her faceup to reflect that.

I chose Rovás Runes for her, due to my own Hungarian roots. Below is my guide for the rune placements and definitions.

Honestly I think she turned out lovely. The mockup is really rough and truly only for the placement of the runes. I usually wing blushing and such when I faceup my own dolls. I do not normally make mockups, I find them a little stifling and hard to look accurate in the drawing compared to the real faceup.

I also changed her outfit. The corset is way too big, but the skirt fills out the hips and the shawl, which is made of a scrap piece of decorative fabric, hides the too big cups. But I am happy with her overall look now.

I decided to redo the theme on my Magic Mirror Fairy and regular Branwen in quartz to better suit her name, Rune. I chose to go with Rovás Runes for her as my ancestry is Hungarian, and it felt fitting.

I chose to go from top to bottom with general runes, as it over all is a written alphabet that is read right to left, and is actually much more phonetically accurate to write Hungarian with instead of the Latin-based alphabet that is commonly used. Though the old Hungarian Runes are making a comeback, so that is lovely to see.

The translation of the runes in the left line top to bottom are: Wisdom/Deeper meaning/Understanding, Beginnings/Inspirations/the Self, Challenge/Opportunity/Growth, Power/Generosity/Authority, and Mastery/Achievement/Skill

The translation of the right line top to bottom reads: Joy/Celebration/Success, Flow/Unseen/Emotion, Expression/Articulation/Truth, and Strength/Action/Vitality

At least I hope that's what they mean, or I'll be sad despite my research!

Here's the comparisons of the two faceplates previous to current faceups. I did like the old faceups, but they just weren't right for her I feel. So off they came and she was repainted.

I also changed her outfit too, and I made her new eyes back in January. I loved the Ashuradark eyes in her, but I've discovered my love for making my own eyes. Still gotta make at least a dozen for my dolls as I want to swap them from acrylics to resin, and even some away from the plain glass ones they got.

Among the Flowers

(part 1/3)

I recently spent the afternoon hanging out with a good friend of mine who is also part of our local BJD community. We both took pics of our respective dolls amongst the blooming flowers of the Schönbrunn Palace's royal garden.

I took Bubbles with me and found a lilac bush that had the perfect color blooms to match her hair and outfit! The sent of lilacs is definitely one of my favorite floral smells. It was a little challenging to take the pictures as I held her in the bush with one stretched out arm and took the pics with my Canon EOS R and a 35mm Macro lens. My friend came to help by holding a reflector so she was lit from the front as the sun was behind her.

Among the Flowers

I recently spent the afternoon hanging out with a good friend of mine who is also part of our local BJD community. We both took pics of our respective dolls amongst the blooming flowers of the Schönbrunn Palace's royal garden.

For the final pictures, I took Bubbles into the grass and sat her amongst dandelions and my friend made a flower crown out of teeny daisies, which was a little small, but still adorable. I love when lawns are not just grass, but more natural mixes of native flowers, clover, and moss. It just feels nice to have little pockets of nature even within a major city.

I recently spent the afternoon hanging out with a good friend of mine who is also part of our local BJD community. We both took pics of our respective dolls amongst the blooming flowers of the Schönbrunn Palace's royal garden.

After the lovely lilacs, we moved on to a different blooming bush (a bridal wreath spirea) that had gorgeous tiny white flowers all over. I only had to hold her for the first two images in this set, the rest she was standing (after putting up quite the fight) on her own in the grass. I didn't think to take a stand with me today, but it's okay, once I got her situated she held solid!

Today we got a two for one! I painted both faceplates of my Magic Mirror Branwen (fairy and human versions) in quartz skin, which is a beautiful blue-grey. I decided to go super fancy with her faceups, by adding a painted circlet.

There are some small, but distinct differences between the two faceplates. The human one was rounded ears, wider eyes, and sculpted lip lines. The fairy one has pointy ears, narrower romantic eyes, and smooth lips. I still painted them the same so I can swap between them.

Here's a quick pic of her all put together! Isn't she lovely? I love that she's got super voluminous hair while herself being delicate and light.

This eye-searingly hot pink doll is a Magic Mirror Fafnir in raspberry from my own collection. She'd arrived with the artist's faceup, but I always gotta do my own.

I used lots of shimmers and some duo-chrome watercolor paints on her to really make her shine.

Sadly once again, the sparklies cannot be truly appreciated without a video, so I included one. She's a goober though and kept flaking off the filigree linework along her cheeks before I could seal her. But I won the war in the end and it's staying put!

Quick comparison of the lovely artist's faceup vs my own. Next time I repaint her I will try to put her eyebrows lower and make them a little thinner as they are kind of taking over haha.
