A Pathway to Magic (or the meaning of Life?)

The Path is simply a way to describe the route we all take through this life. It relates to our every thought, action, motivation and goals. In short, how we live our lives.  You are already on a path even though you might not have realised it. Everything we do and think pushes us along in a direction. You do not pick a path,

Magic

Choosing a magical path will not be for everyone but it is one of the oldest paths there is. Following the seasons, moon, tides, life, death and the very elements has been a human tradition since the beginning of time. This is by no means a full list of every type of magic available and some are arguably the same thing but it should give you some idea;

Sky Magic, Celestial, House Magic, Fae Magic, Green, White, Black, Knot, Water, Sea, Storm, Swamp, Garden, Sprit worker, Healing, Lunos, Divination, Amulet, Jar, Premonition, clairvoyant,  Medium, Energy, Protection, Animal, Love, Hedge, Elemental, Blood, Hedge, Plant..

There are lot of ways to select;

You could choose to follow a path based on your talents. For example, if you’ve always had green fingers you could be gifted in this path. If you regularly suffer from Deja vu you might have the gift of premonition and the seer route could suit you well.

You might find you are naturally drawn to a path. If you find you are only truly happy by the coast you might have a leaning towards sea magic. If you are only happy setting things on fire, you are either an arsonist or drawn to fire element magic. Follow a path that simply interests you. If you have ever found yourself standing in a field at night looking at the constellations and wondering what they are called and how they got their names Why not get involved in Celestial magic. If you are a nurse and interested in alternative and traditional remedies why not learn healing magic.

If you aren’t sure or you like multiple paths we call this eclectic and it’s a path all over its own.

Religion

Before laws and courts, religion brought order to the chaos. The path’s it provides are well-defined with a “Goal” to aim for and guidance on how to get there. These days most religions are in decline but a lot of people still find strength in a religion.

The one obvious choice if following a magical path is Wicca. Relatively new Wicca took off in the 1950’s following a series of books written by Gerald Gardner and Doreen Valiente its roots however are built on the information they gleaned from historical research into the pagan witchcraft of the past. There are still some practicing other branches of pagan traditions (Druids, Satanists, Celtic Pagans). If you prefer a more mainstream religion don’t discount Christianity, It might surprise you to know that Christianity was tailored to link strongly to Pagan traditions. Christmas, Easter and Harvest festival were adapted to allow pagan festivals to continue. Even the symbols were copied across, to allow the Romans to drop their pagan deities in favour of this new religion. There are lots of ways to select;

For some there is no choice and you will have been born into a religion from birth. But remember nothing is stopping you from changing your path.

To meet people, whatever the religion it is normally conducted in groups. The social aspect might seem very shallow as a reason for taking up a religion, but there is power in groups. Witches for generations have formed Covens for exactly this reason.

Because you are drawn. Strangely a lot of people who follow the old gods do so because they have been drawn to them. Watch for the signs, if a name keeps coming up they might have chosen you.

To bring extra power to spells, a lot of traditions are built upon using deities to supplement the practice.

 The Wider Path.

Finally you need to discover what drives you. For some people the quest for knowledge is enough, to be happy they simply need to follow the drive to become wise. For others family is everything, to feel they have succeeded in life children must be left behind. Some aim for enlightenment and spiritual oneness. I have met those who live only to travel and new experiences. Strange as it may sound some live for their death, or more accurately an afterlife. So long as their religion is followed rigidly they will be happy. Although shallow some are only driven by money, although you cant take it with you when you go, it will still be the only thing that makes them happy. Power has always been one of the strongest driving forces. This can be a powerful job or simply strong magic power. Finally some wish for fame or simply to be remembered for something they have done.

Deciding this path is not easy and over the years most will change their minds. But understanding what drives you is essential to finding happiness. If you naturally have talents for green magic but choose power and spend your life stuck in an office you will find it difficult to find peace.

 Whatever path you choose remember that others path’s are just as important and respect them.

I finally figured it out!

So, there's this path where I go for walks with my dog. And some weeks ago I started noticing painted stones. Just a handful along the path, at first.

But then the amount grew.

And then they started having text on them, saying "do not move or take away". Now, naturally, because I am the rebel (cough, cough, arsehole, cough) that I am, my first instinct was to replace them. (I resisted that and am very proud of it.)

The amount of stones grew, and suddenly there were tiny windows mounted to tree stumps and such.

And I got angry. Like, really pissed off.

But I didn't know why!

Was I just the miserable b*tch some people would definitely call me?

No!

When I went there again today, I finally realized, why they make so angry.

It's not just the signs, telling everyone to not touch. It's not just the (most likely) chinese toxic paint being placed in one of the very few (!!!) places we still have nature here. It's not just the amount of stones. It's not just that someone feels like nature needs tp be "decorated" (IT DOES NOT!! And if you feelmlike it, decorate yo r own place, your home!).

It's the fact, that this was the only place easily reachable for me where I did not have to put up with human made distraction (i.e. bright colours).

It was a place where my mind could calm down because there was only the natural colors and noises and nothing popped up unexpectedly, demanding my attention.

That is why I'm angry. Someone went ahead and took away my place of calm, to make it exactly as loud as everywhere else.

Of course I could just stay in my room for having a calm space. But the entire world is full of bright colours and stuff human made. Why did I have to lose the only place that wasn't because someone felt this place needed "decoration"???

Now, what do I do? I don't know! And that's the part that breaks me.

Do I call police and ask them to have a look (because littering is a crime and the place is a protected nature area)? Do I make a facebook account and write the person my problem? Do I accept it? Do I shush and cry for myself?

I don't know.
