#magic summer jacket

My jacket is slowly creeping toward completion. Which is good, because it is February 1st, and I fly out on February 19th.

Sewed down the pocket flaps and tacked the pockets inside the jacket. I've also pinned a strip of grosgrain to the inside of the plackets. If I can do the zipper before I go, I'll sew it onto the ribbon and do another strip to finish it. If not (and I've never sewn a zipper, so I don't want to rush it), the ribbon adds a nice touch and gives it some weight.

The large patch is almost done - just have the green left. I'll pin them in place and use the yarn to whip stitch them on.

Everything was bought online. The only thing I could color match in person was the embroidery floss to the yarn. The ribbon isn't a perfect match to my sleeves, but I think I got it abbot as close as possible.

I'm rather pleased with myself.

Can't wait to get it finished and start wearing it!

It's done! The second picture has the flash, which is why the patch looks lighter. In person, it matches the yarn, like the front one does.

I wasn't able to get the zipper. I just ran out of time. But it works without, so that's okay.

Looking forward to wearing it next week to the concert, and then making it my spring/fall jacket.

I finally got my jacket off the needles last night.

I'll be blocking it today. I've tried it on, and it doesn't need much tugging, which is good.

After that, I'll weave in ends, tack down the pockets, and stitch the Magic Summer sun on the front left and back.

Once that's done, I'll see about putting a zipper in. Worst case scenario, I'll leave it open for my Vegas trip and do the zipper when I get back. But it will be wearable for the concert.

I love it already. It's cozy and warm, but not too heavy. Hoping the guys like it.

Patch sewn on the front of my jacket. It blends a bit more in person. The camera makes the felt look a little shiny. Still, I'm happy with how it looks.

I have to do the large patch on the back later this week. I'm going to hold off on the zipper until after my trip. Time is getting close and I don't want to rush and make a mess.

I love the way this is turning out. I hope the band likes it, too.

I finished stitching the small patch for my jacket. It's still a bit damp from taking the canvas out, so I'll trim it down tomorrow.

I was thinking I might go around the edges with the matching yarn, to give it a more finished look.

And tomorrow I'll start working on the larger version that will go on the back.

If I can get it done quickly enough, I might even have time to put the zipper in before my trip.

We had snow last night and today was a holiday, so work was very quiet. I brought my stitching with me and got a fair bit done. I'm hoping to finish it by Wednesday. Once it is done, I'll start the larger patch.

Changing plans on my jacket. I started stitching with the yarn yesterday, but it frayed and looked messy. I've decided to stitch onto felt (found some that is an almost perfect match to the jacket color!) and sew patches on, instead.

Finally out of ribbing hell and done with the pocket decreases on the left front of my Magic Summer Jacket.
