my opinion on the direction of pokemon in general is like. gen 1 was supposed to be a monster collecting game, and the design philosophy was mostly centered around that, as such the story wasn't anything special. i don't think that was a bad thing. however! in order for the series to continue it has to move beyond being a little monster collecting game! story and characters are necessary to keep things interesting even as more games come out. not every gen can be gen 1

oh, you’re probably right, gen 1 was supposed to be like that, like collecting bugs in summer, isnt it? it’s not that it’s a bad thing, but saying it was the best gen and that the rest of them were garbage when the rest of the gens have basically improved what gen 1 was (we don’t talk about gen 6 lmao) feels kinda disrespectful

i like gen 1 mons and i like some kanto characters, but seeing lots of beardy 30 yo men complaining about how hau is “too nice” or that pokemon is now “for pussies” because it deals with serious issues now while being inherently positive games is... eugh. also game freaks seems to think that pandering to those guys is the best option, and not giving kids nice games to play and listening to those who have legit feedback about the games

at least, when we said that gen 6 was weak, they listened. so gen 7 was so good (excluding some things that i have complained about 9402432 times) that it can perfectly high five gen 5 as peak pokemon games imo. im kinda scared of gen 8 tho... because alola made me feel so good, so at home, that i fear that everything will feel a little bland compared to it
