Witch Bottles, Spell Jars, call’em what you’d like -- The original witch bottle hails from the late Middle Ages/Renaissance Era. It was not made by witches, but by ordinary folk who wanted to be protected from witches. You’ll find that a lot of traditional methods of ‘witchcraft’ are not witchcraft at all, but many and varied ways to be protected from witchcraft. Way back in Ye Olden days ~ they were comprised of two main ingredients, Piss and Pins. Ew. Gross!! Well -- Yeah you’re right but, the thought behind this is, humans are animals too, you’re marking your territory, and the pins were meant to cause stabbing pains in the bladder of the “Witch” the person was trying to get rid of. Persephone, are you going to make me pee in a bottle? No, well I mean, if you want to -- have at it, But just know there are much more modern means, that are far more pleasing to the eyes, and nose. If you want a spell that’s going to last forever and ever, Or at least an extremely long time? Spell jars are exactly what you’re gonna want to conjure up. So, How do I go about making one, and what exactly do I need to put in it? Spell jars are super versatile but here are some basics, just to get you started. First, you’re going to need a jar! No it doesn’t have to be a glass jar, it could be plastic, ceramic or even metal, but you’re going to want whatever you’re storing your precious spell in, to be air tight! Seal that baby up so none of your magical intentions leak out, or...any of those oils you may be using.
Make sure you wash and dry all your containers really well, drying is especially important because you don’t want it to go all green and moldy on you. Right? Of course not! Next, select your intentions, I’m not going to tell you who to call upon for this, just go with your gut, while you’re working your spell make sure to picture it firmly in your mind. Channel all of those thoughts and energy into your bottle and each piece you select to place inside of your bottle. Sky is the limits. Just remember, don’t use spell jars for harmful, or greedy self gain. The universe and all the magic in it, have a funny way of coming back and biting you right on the rump. Need help thinking of things to place inside your jar? Crystals. Dried herbs. Ground or whole dried spices. Dried fruit and vegetables. Essential oils. Water and magic waters. Shells. Coins. Bones. Beads.
If you plan on burying your jar somewhere in the Earth, please make sure you respect mother nature and use biodegradable everything. Remember, take care of your mother. So -- Final conclusion. 1 - Define your intention. Why am I making this bottle? 2 - Pick out the jar. Symbolism can play a role so make sure your bottle vibes with your intentions. 3 - Select the things you’re going to use inside your jar. Don’t rush this, read up on the magical properties of each thing and make sure they’re in harmony with your end goal. 4 - Fill your jar! Simple enough right? Make sure you’re channeling all your intent inside as you do so. 5 - Seal your jar! Nice and air tight, remember? 6 - Meditate. Sit on your thoughts, the process, the intent behind it. 7 - Finish your spell if you’ve written words to go with your intent. Just a reminder, These are my thoughts, my version of how I interpret magic and how the universe and all the magic in it, speaks to me personally. My way is no better than any others, I just want to offer my words to whoever may read them, and if it helps them learn something new, that’s all I can ask for, - Persephone
