5: first headcanon that pops into my head - Presea became a Master Smith because when she was a little girl she wanted to become a Magic Knight. After learning the truth of the myth, she figured being a weapon maker was as close to a hero as she could come.

6: favorite line from this character - “Shall I pull on your cheeks to see how big your mouth can open? Or shall I boil you three together in a big pot?” (Delightfully absurd Master Smith is delightfully absurd.)

7: one way in which I relate to this character - Sometimes I concoct bizarre revenge fantasies in my head, too.

8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character - She is so over the top, which is delightful, but would be a bit much to deal with in real life, you know?

One thing that makes Ascot so interesting to me: He’s very much a grey character, neither fully at fault nor fully blameless for the messy situation he ended up in. And so, at this point in the series, he’s at a crossroads where he could easily choose to go either way, to dig in his heels and stubbornly keep fighting (and probably still win, though probably at the cost of a few more friends’ lives), or to take that first step towards something better for him and his friends.

I hear you! Ascot has been through so much in his (possibly short, who really knows?) life, that I’m sure Zagato’s offer looked great, even if it might require him to fight. Honestly, it seems he’s a product of his environment - never belonging, but searching for a place where he would be accepted and appreciated, not cast out. So that morally gray area he inhabits is in part his nature, part learned survival tactics. People? They’re cruel and therefore expendable. His beasts? They don’t ostracize and fear him, so they’re friends. But that he can accept what Umi is saying and see reason means that there is a part of him that is still hoping that he’ll be able to find a place, someday, where he is truly accepted for himself, no strings attached.

Today, in things that should’ve appeared in the anime, Umi being invested in this kid finding his way. Like, she’s pretty much, “If I had the time, Ascot, I’d be dragging you to this powerful person I know and yelling at him until he gave you a house in the countryside!” Honestly, while Ascot had to figure out the rest on his own at this point, I like to think that Umi’s will did play some part in seeing that he ultimately turned out okay in the end.

A manga omake where Umi gets Mokona to contact Clef for her, and she spends the next half hour harassing Clef about how Ascot was treated and demanding he make it right as soon as Cephiro is safe and not letting up until Clef agrees and maybe (definitely) swearing a sacred oath of some sort so she knows he didn’t promise just to get her to leave him alone.

Ascot and Hikaru make a fairly awesome brotp in their own right. Not quite Caldina and Ascot level, but still very fun regardless.

They do! They’re both basically: *gasp* look a dog!  *gasp* look a cat!  *gasp* look a rabbit!  *gasp* look a snake!  *gasp* look another dog! Let’s take them all home with us!
