This is a Victorian gold filled retracting dip pen and magic pencil combination c. late 1800s. Fully open, as shown, the instrument is about 6 1/8 inches long. Closed, it’s a tiny 2 7/8 inches long. The nib extends by pushing the slider, a raised band on the barrel, toward the nib opening. The stainless steel nib is stamped ESTERBROOK. The magic pencil extends and retracts by twisting the knob on the opposite end from the nib. The pencil extends by pulling the knob out.
