@mimmikyyu: Feel like I’ve known you for ages! We had kind of a rocky start if I remember, but since then I’ve really come to respect you. And even though you don’t post as much Dragon Age these days, you’re always reblogging something interesting, and you care a lot about people.

@strongjaw-ale: You’re pretty awesome and I love your characters and your art! I definitely consider you one of my tumblr friends even though we don’t actually talk much, and a lot of your posts are #relatable. So yes I enjoy following, for sure. <3

@imekari-raas: Similar to @strongjaw-ale I feel like we don’t talk that much but I still think of you as a friend. Your OCs are all beautiful and well-thought-out. You’re just a really positive presence in the fandom and I always love seeing you on my dash and in my notes. You’re always so supportive of my creative work, and I appreciate it so much.

Life Update | A Day at the Pumpkin Patch

//part of stumbling through the stars. disclaimer: haven’t played the game yet ‘cause my computer sucks, so I’m not as familiar with the characters as I’d like to be, but oh well lol.

So, here’s the thing: she’s neverbeen all that coordinated. Sure, she’s improved over the years and can now walkacross a flat surface—usually, anyway—without inexplicably falling right ontoher face. She’s still bad at turning and doesn’t even want to talk about herskill with the jump jet—she’s pretty sure she’s gotten more bruises from roughlandings than she has enemy fire. It’s odd really, put a datapad under her noseand suddenly she can navigate the toughest of crowds. She suspects it’soverthinking on her part, a problem she’s always had. If something is simple, then she just hasn’t looked atall the variables yet, right?

Due to this and her generallypeaceful nature, her combat skills have always been lacking as well. She passedAlliance basic training by the skin of her teeth, but knew that she wasn’tgoing to be the one to carry on the great Ryder name in the Alliance. Still,she’d managed to get by with the help of her natural biotics and tech skills.

Since receiving SAM’s… upgrade, though, she’s had far lesstrouble than she used to. She can aim better and dodge and her biotics are evenmore fine-tuned than before. She’s becoming a bit of a badass, if she does sayso herself. Still, there are relapses. Like right now, as she follows Liam downa steep hill on Eos and her foot slips in the sand and she’s suddenly tumblingdown, crashing into something firm—Liam,obviously, as a rock would’ve hurt more. Liam gives a grunt and gives way underher sudden weight—though, really, the yelp she just gave should’ve been warningenough for everyone to evacuate the area, as they should all be used to hersudden mishaps by now.

They roll a few more feet beforecoming to a stop, with him on the bottom, arms wrapped around her waist. She’ddone her best to ball herself up, which means that she’s now pressed firmlyinto his chest and—is she straddlinghim? Oh god, she’s straddling him! She pushes herself up, his arms still aroundher waist, but loose. Her hands slip against his chest, though, and she goesfalling back down, catching herself with just an inch to spare. During herstruggles, though, she’d managed to reposition herself to where her face wasright above his. So now their noses are brushing and his eyes are staring rightinto her and she can feel his breath, but he probably can’t feel hers becauseshe doesn’t have any. Her breath had left her point-four seconds ago when she’dnoticed their position and it hadn’t come back. It was probably all the wayback in the Milky Way by now, telling her extremely distant relatives all abouttheir awkward cousin and oh god, can the ground open up and swallow her? Wait,no, bad idea, ‘cause it would probably take Liam with her.

Speaking of: “Hi,” he says, crackingthat grin of his and she just keeps staring dumbly into his eyes because if shedidn’t, she’d be staring at his mouth and, oh boy, would that be a bad idea.She honestly hadn’t been this close to him since their brief moment on thecouch, when she’d pressed her forehead against his—what her mom had always donefor her when she’d been upset—but her eyes had been closed then, so she hadn’tnoticed all the different specks of color in his eyes and how they all blendedtogether to make that perfect, soft brown that in the right light reminded herof those caramel treats her mom had made once that didn’t turn out so well butstill somehow became synonymous with the thought of home.

His brow furrows and she wants tokiss the little scrunch that appears between his eyebrow and woah, slow down there, chica. “You good, Pathfinder?” He’sprobably growing concerned at her silence and wide-eyed look. She blinks rapidly,forcing herself to get some control like a professional,dammit.

“Yeah!” she squeaks out with a littletoo much force as she rolls off of him. Her cheeks are blazing as she coughsand clears her throat in a vain attempt to make him think she’d swallowed sandor… something, anything really.

That’s just as Cora practically slidesdown to them with a grace that always makes Gabby feel like a bumbling toddler.“You two alright?” the other woman asks, watching as the two stand, one—Gabby—withmore trouble than the other. Cora doesn’t sound all that concerned, probablybecause if a tumble down a sandy hill could kill them, then they’d all be deadby now. Gabby still nods, patting down her armor in a fairly useless attempt toget all the sand out of the crevices.

“Yes! Perfectly fine. Now, let’s getback to… whatever we were doing before” she fumbles and really, she’s one ofthe smartest people she knows, but her words never seem to convey that. Liamlaughs, and she’s not sure if it’s because he thinks she’s joking about havingforgotten or not. Either way, the sound makes her smile a little like itusually does and she watches as he resumes their path to… wherever.

She doesn’t notice Cora side-eyeingher until she speaks. “You two looked pretty comfortable there for a second.”

Sheactivates her tactical cloak in a too-late-attempt to hide her blush. It doeshide her grin, though, as she remembers the colors in his eyes.

Aaliyah Shepard + Youth

//part of silent nights and fitful sleep. trigger warnings: abuse (verbal/emotional) & attempted sexual assault.

Shegets vague images sometimes: a woman with fair skin and red hair. She’s no ideaif it’s actually her mother she sees, or just her imagination. Either way,she’ll never really know. She figures as the years go by that her parents areeither dead or just don’t care. There’s no way to track them down, she wasdropped off at the orphanage doorstep at the ripe age of one year and eightmonths with nothing but a blanket and a first name and birthdate scribbled ontoa sticky note.

It doesn’t matter, really. Her lackof parents only haunts her for the first ten years of her life before shedecides to shrug it off. It won’t do her any good. She’s got a lot of thingsmissing from her life and thinking about any of them won’t help her survive.What will is a community, a network of resources to learn from.

She joins the Reds at twelve and fora year, she just sort of exists. She’s in the background, hovering and notmaking any real connections until one day a boy approaches her with eyes likethe sky and hair like the sand she’s seen in vids. He’s almost two years olderand he’s got a grin that speaks of adventureand it’s not long before she finds herself wrapping around him in every sense.He teaches her risk and sex and that intimacy has no place in arelationship. He teaches her how to give but never receive. He tells her “this is love” and she doesn’t knowanything to the contrary, so she believes him.

He climbs the ranks of the Reds andshe remains dutifully behind him. As his connections grow, so does hers. Shewas right about the key to survival, her connections through the gang becomingstrong enough to never go a night without some sort of meal. As the years crawlby, though, whatever shreds of a relationship she has with the boy with eyes ofthe sky become further frayed. He tells her that her art is pointless and willget her nowhere. He tells her that she needs to stick by him if she hopes tomake it in this world. He points out every flaw of hers and tells her it’s forthe sake of her own growth (but should his flaws be brought to light, they aredismissed as nonexistent or a misunderstanding on her part).

It crashes down one night when she’sfour months into sixteen and he’s two days into eighteen and his hands skirtingup her shirt, but she’s tired and it’s not particularly enjoyable for her andher skin’s been crawling at the thought of him touching her since he lastrelieved himself with her two weeks ago.

“I’m tired” she tells him, but hishand continues. “Not tonight” she says, but he’s groping at her chest now. “No” she says more firmly, grabbing hiswrist and tugging his hand away from her body. He snatches his hand back andbefore she knows it, he’s grabbing her waist and sliding her closer to himalong the couch and she tries to squirm away, but his grip is strong and sheknows she’ll have bruises. He tells her she owes him and it’s not a big dealand that he just needs to get off, which is all his focus has ever been on whenhaving sex. Still, she persists and he becomes increasingly frustrated as hetries to hold her still and take her pants off at the same time. She yells, butno one comes, even though she knows there are other Reds in the next room.

Her leg manages to slip free and shethinks it’s truly a miracle as she knees him right between the legs. Hesputters in pain and falls off the couch. He calls after her, but she’s alreadyfleeing the room. Her breath is coming out in gasps and tears are streamingdown her cheeks, but the looks she gets from those in the room are mildlycurious at best. She tilts her chin up high, holds her breath, and exits thebuilding into the cool night air.

She sits on the stairs and nearlychokes as she finally releases her sobs. A good five minutes go by, before shehears the door behind her open and she tries to choke down her cries. An oldergirl, nineteen she thinks, steps casually down the stairs. She’s been a fixturein the Reds since Aaliyah joined, always aloof, spending more time with theolder members than those Aaliyah’s age.

The older girl takes out a cigaretteand lights it and Aaliyah’s nose can’t help but scrunch as she’s assaulted withthe scent. “That won’t do you any good, y’know.” Aaliyah’s shocked enough atthe girl speaking to her to make eye contact for a brief moment, before quicklyglancing away in a pointless effort to hide her tears. “The crying. No onegives a fuck about some little girl crying. All tears say is ‘I’m weak, so goahead and take a shit on me.’” She takes a drag of her cigarette before handingdown a brown bag with a bottle that smells of straight vodka and Aaliyah takesit hesitantly. “The only way to survive is to keep your eyes dry and your livershot to hell, got it?”

She nods, but the other girl’s stillwatching her, waiting for something, so she lifts the bottle to her lips andtakes a gulp and tries not to choke when it burns down her throat. The othergirl nods approvingly, despite Aaliyah’s clear displeasure with the beverage,and turns her attention to the night sky. Aaliyah takes another chug from thebottle and she must have kept going, because she doesn’t really rememberanything after that.

She decides the next morning toremain a light drinker, but she’ll get drunk like that two more times in herlife, once when she’s forced to break her lifelong promise of no one leftbehind and again when she’s still alive despite the laws of nature and she’sbeen abandoned once more in her life.

She makes it clear to the boy thatshe no longer wants anything to do with him. After that, no one else seems towant anything to do with her. Theyaccept her presence, but she’s back in the background. They hardly speak toher, hardly look at her. The new key to survival becomes getting out. He makesquick notice of her new status of pariah, and is quick to let her know what shecan do to fix that. She holds her chin up high, though, and doesn’t spit in hisface. No, she does that on her eighteenth birthday with an Alliance applicationin her hand and one foot out the door.

Blood and dirt. That’s almost allshe notices. It’s assaulting her senses. There’s a deep gash through her lefteyebrow and she has to keep wiping the blood out of her eye. And if it’s notblood getting in her eye, it’s her hair. Her red locks have fallen out of theirbun—quite the achievement, being that she ties it tight enough to have givenher a headache for the first five months she began wearing the style.

Her sniper rifle’s shot to hell,overheated so bad it no longer works. She’s on her last grenade and her SMG hascertainly seen better days. There’s an ache in her ribs too, now that shethinks about it. She must have cracked a few dodging that last explosion.

She looks to the wide eyes of thecolonists, their hands shaking on the guns they hold. They’re at their lastbarricade. If they lose this position, they lose the whole colony. And she’sall they have. The two fellow Alliance soldiers that had accompanied her aredead and she can’t believe just two hours ago she’d thought this would be aroutine colony checkup.

She’s taken out more batarian headsthan she had props in target practice. She’d seen more blood and guts than shecared to think about. She’s heard more screams than she can comprehend. Sheexhausted and her body aches and she thinks if she stands her legs might justgive out and damn, it’d probably be nice to be a biotic right now. It’s noteven over yet. She can hear the rest of the batarian troops approaching, takingadvantage in the reprieve from the human forces.

But the colonists are watching herand in their eyes she sees terror, yeah, but she also sees the smallest flickerof hope and that makes her lungsconstrict more than any pain. No one else will die, she decides then. Never onher watch. No one will be left behind, no one sacrificed. She’ll do her damnedest to make sure they all get outof this alive. If she leaves anything behind, it’ll be that.

One hand grips the handle of her gunwhile the other clutches her last grenade and she rises.

She’s breathing. She’s covered inblood and dirt and she doesn’t have to look in the mirror to know she’sunrecognizable, but she’s breathing. And so are the colonists. That’s all shecould’ve asked for. She watches as the Alliance troops bustle through thecolony, taking stock of the damage and injured. Since she’d waved off medical—thereare other who need it more than she does, though the logical part of her knowsshe should get the gash on her face looked at soon as possible—they’ve all beenkind of giving her a wide berth. Their eyes when they glance toward her arefull of disbelief, but she doesn’t care. Right now, she’s just taking a momentto breathe.

Kneecaps enter her line of visionfrom where she’s sitting on the ground. She looks up, at the face of an olderman being framed by the sun. He sticks his hand toward her and she onlyhesitates slightly before taking it. He hauls her up and she can’t help butgroan as her entire body protests the movement.

“So you’re the hero of the day” hesays in a deep voice and she grimaces slightly at the already popular title. “LieutenantCommander Shepard, is it?” She nods, straightening her back despite her soremuscles, taking note of the ranking on this man’s uniform. “Captain DavidAnderson.” He holds his hand out and she takes it, but will kick herself laterfor forgetting to salute.

“Pleasure to meet you, sir.”

9. How do they feel about the Force and the orders that use it?

Lincoln: He has respect for the Force and those who wield it, but he doesn't see them as any more special than the typical soldier. Just instead of a blaster, their weapon of choice is the Force.

Nlace: Being a Chiss, she's got a complicated relationship with the Force. She's Force sensitive and has some ability with it, but she's buried it away and kept it a secret due to her people's views on it and how she was raised. Even now, ostracized from Chiss society due to her inability to conform, she still keeps that part of her hidden. As for the people who wield it openly, she thinks most of them are too big for their britches.

3. Do they fit in with their faction or were they sort of born into it?

Lily: She certainly wasn't born into the Empire, but she has no memories prior to it. She fits in in the way that what she is after is power. She doesn't give two shits about the Empire itself--resents it at times, even, for having made her a slave previously.

Aveline: Her father defected to the Empire when she was a child and took her with him, so she's spent most of her life there. She has that trademark Imperial mistrust and will occasionally make a less than morally upright decision if she views it as the best way to achieve her goal.

16. What do they do in their spare time?

Spare time is a luxury for Litioka these days. She usually spends it either meditating, with Theron, her friends, etc.

17. Do they have family? Silbings, parents, children?

Leah is an orphan with no family to speak of. She and Torian have a kid or two at some point, but I haven't decided on the specifics yet lol.

23. Do they like their role in their current situation? ei: if they are a Sith do they like being in the Sith order?

Did you purposefully pick the Family Drama Trio for this or happy coincidence? lol

Lily: She enjoys being a Sith and the power and freedom it affords her. She never would've been able to follow the rules of the Jedi and she would sooner die than ever be powerless again.

Aveline: The path she took in life was the best one afforded to her at the time. She takes pride in her work as an agent, but she secretly longs to be free from the control of the Empire. If she could go back in time and stop the actions of her father that sent her and her family down this path, she would in a heartbeat.

Lincoln: He's very proud to be a part of the Republic--and later Alliance--military. He's the kind of guy who just wants to do good and help others and, since he's not Force sensitive, he believes that's the best way he can do so.

19. Who is their rival?

For Naomi, I suppose Baras is the closest she's had to that? Outside of those jerks on Korriban when she was an acolyte that is lol.

21. Would they continue their legacy by having children? Adopt? Get an apprentice?

Naomi: Obviously, there's her apprentice Jaesa. Aside from that, she and Quinn do have a daughter born between Umbara and Nathema timeline-wise.

Litioka: She, of course, had Nadia as her padawan. She's also always willing to lend advise/guidance to anyone who asks. She and Theron have a daughter who's born just after Echoes of Oblivion.

Leah: Once Leah's able to focus more on being a Mandalorian again, she and Torian work on building up Clan Cadera: taking in scrappy do-gooders who need a place to belong and adopting them into the clan. As mentioned above, they also have a kid or two lol.

Lincoln: He takes training the next generation of soldiers--for the Republic and/or Alliance--very seriously, so he's a mentor figure to a lot of new recruits. He and Elara have twin boys born just before Ossus.

Nlace: She and Corso have at least three kids at some point. Look, if Rebels said a Twi'lek and human can have a kid, I don't see why a Chiss and human can't.

Lily: She's got her students in Ashara and Xalek and that is her quota for people she's willing to teach. She's not... exactly the parental type, so I don't think she and Andronikos have kids or take any in.

Aveline: She doesn't have interest in teaching, nor having children.

Yonmiva: She's got Kira as a padawan and, like Litioka, is always willing to lend guidance when asked. I'm still back and forth on whether she and Arcann have kids. I'm leaning toward them having one, but not for a while. (Again: Rebels said it was possible lol)

31. Describe their personality. Are they snarky, noble, insane, etc?

Naomi: Calm and collected most of the time, but can let her anger get the better of her. She's aware of how much power she has and while she's not egotistic, she won't humble herself simply for the sake of others.

Litioka: Also a very calm individual. Not quick to anger and very empathetic, but with a tendency toward martyrdom.

Leah: She likes to stay cool and collected, but girl's got a healthy level of snark going on. She tries to only take serious things seriously.

Lincoln: I described him as like a "walking sun" in a fic and that is his general disposition. He's just a genuinely good guy and only truly gets angry when witnessing injustices or dealing with his family.

Nlace: Hide's a lifetime's worth of feeling inadequate behind jokes and a blase attitude.

Lily: The person she is was forged by trauma and a deep-rooted need to never be powerless or weak again. She's not crazy, but she's not stable either. She acts as if she doesn't care about anyone or anything outside herself and the little crew she'd assembled on her ship and, for the most part, that's true.

Aveline: A consummate professional, she doesn't let much show on her surface. She learned at an early age that to be open is to be vulnerable. She's someone who knows what is right, but isn't afraid to do wrong. The means justify the ends.

Yonmiva: A friendly, empathetic individual plagued by imposter syndrome. She's typically the ever-calm Jedi, but isn't afraid to let some humor slip in.

25. Do they have any deep dark secrets?

Lincoln: He keeps his family history (tldr: his uncle killed his father, kidnapped his mother and sister--Lily--and sold them into slavery, and defected to the Empire with his own daughter, Aveline) a secret from all but a select few. Aveline was old enough to remember, so she knows. The first person Lincoln ever tells is Elara, and Aric finds out when they all come face to face on Yavin.

Leah: No, not really. She's got some Force sensitivity, but she thought everyone was that way until she started running into more Jedi lol.

27. Do they have any regrets?

Every life lost on her watch is a regret for Litioka. Every time someone rejects redemption is a regret. She regrets not being able to stop the Emperor before Ziost and then everything that happened with Zakuul. Sometimes, quietly, a small part of her regrets joining the Order so young and wonders what her life could've been had she not been taught to stifle her emotions and put all others before herself. During her lowest moments, when the weight of the galaxy is pulling her under, she regrets being Commander of the Alliance. Currently, she regrets having the Alliance join the Republic instead of simply being allies.

30. Do they like to boogie? Do they dance to that good old cantina band?

Heck yeah! Nlace is the life of the party.
