London during Christmas time was different than the rest of the year. It wasn’t just the Christmas trees or anything like that. There was just something in the air that made it impossible for him not to grin. Of course, that brilliant smile might’ve been because of the fact that Newt had invited Niall to celebrate with him. He was always happy for a reason to see his friend, especially if it meant celebrating an unfamiliar holiday.
He stretched out next to Newt, wrapped up in his scarf and ran fingers over the leather journal Newt gave him. He was a tactile person by nature, and he couldn’t help himself. Plus, it kept him from doing something stupid. Like running his hands through Newt’s hair.
“I think you’ll like it,” Niall hummed, knocking his foot lightly against Newt’s. “I saw it when I was in Hong Kong, and I thought you’d like it. Perfect timing with Christmas. It’s my first time celebrating you know.” A puzzle ring seemed like something Newt would enjoy, and well. He knew giving someone a ring meant something else as well. It seemed appropriate, given his feelings for Newt, and it was his way of testing the waters as well.
To him, Christmas was always just another day. No special occasion or reason to celebrate. At least not since his childhood. So he was glad that Niall had accepted his invitation to join him for the holidays despite the fact that he did not celebrate it.
Hazel hues watched tentively as the other opened the gift he’d picked for him. Now wrapped in the scare he’d carefully picked and the leather journal. Both suited him as he held onto them close to his form. He couldn’t help the grin on his lips now. Momentarily distracted from opening his own gift until Niall’s voice rang in his ears as his gaze now lowered to the small box before him.
He listened to him explain it as fingers gently opened up the box to reveal a ring. A design he’d never seen before and his grin widened just a bit. Slender gingers ghosting over the design of it. “I do like it, very much.” He said with a nod of his head. “Thank you, Niall. I will treasure this.” He said, pulling him into a quick hug,
