It's been a while, again! I'm still figuring out how I want to write posts and chapters, but in the meantime, I figured I could still post some simpler stuff. Have a sketch of the Magix girls as they appear in Arcane Wings.
Designing those signatures was somehow the worst part of this sketch, lol.
Not sure if I'll ever colour this in, but maybe. Maybe.
Four Great Schools of Magix
It's been a long time since I've last posted. Let's talk about the Four Great Schools of Magix, shall we?

Magix: A History
Back in the time when Magix City was founded as the centre of the Magix Dimension, magic users and warriors alike flocked to the new centre to establish a place for themselves. In that time, many years ago, schools of magic or warcraft were not commonplace. Rather, magic users learnt their skills from masters that took young children on as apprentices, whilst warriors would have to learn their craft from local guards or soldiers.
Three siblings had initially come to Magix City to start a new life for themselves. The eldest was a warrior, Stephan Vandestalk, the Dragon Tamer. The middle child was a fairy, Eledyssia Vandestalk, Fairy of Protection. The youngest was a witch, Celestina Vandestalk, Witch of Archives.
Celestina, as befitting her role, was always obsessed with the thought of recording down information and knew that despite her best attempts, she could never manage to record down all the knowledge of the past or of the future. She was the one who first gathered many different dark magic users to join her cause, creating a research unit to dig into the mysteries of magic.
Stephan established a guard platoon to ensure the safety of Magix City, and over time as the city's population grew, so too did the number of young men and women joining the platoon. To ensure that these new guards were able to keep the city safe, Stephan separated them into teams, each team working with a different aspect of the guard platoon. These teams eventually came to be known as the Specialists.
Finally, Eledyssia took to her role as the Fairy of Protection and became the first Guardian Fairy of Magix. Many young fairies and paladins flocked to her, wanting to be like her and keep Magix safe with their magic, which most guards did not use. It was then that Eledyssia had the idea to create a school with her senior light magic users so that they could all teach these bright-eyed students equally and in batches at a time, rather than taking only a select handful on as apprentices.
This was the event that catalysed the creation of the Three Schools of Magix. The Vandestalk siblings decided that they would take their respective groups and construct schools around a lake on the city outskirts, one that was named in honour of their home realm, the Fortress of Light — Lake Roccaluce.
Eledyssia constructed her school closest to the city as the centrepoint of all her siblings and the city's range, for her Enchantix powers were strongest when she was surrounded by people to protect. She called her school Alfea College for Guardian Fairies, after the Vandestalk siblings' mother, dedicated to raising Guardian Fairies that would protect not just Magix, but any planet whose fairies made the journey to Magix in search of a teacher.
Stefan constructed his school between his sisters', placing it at first on a tall cliff, where Magix's native dragons preferred to roost and nest. He made his Specialists renowned warriors, and eventually made them a force that others would call upon for help even outside of Magix City. He called his school Red Fountain School for Specialists, to honour the guard platoon he had established, and after the volcano that he had tamed his first dragon at in his home realm of Roccaluce.
Celestina constructed her school furthest away, nestled in the heart of the Gloomy Wood Forest. She made her school from the living wood of elder trees and made it reach for the skies, giving it a living heart and soul nestled amidst the clouds. She called her school Cloud Tower Institute for Young Witches, dedicated to the research of dark magic, of which teaching could only guide a young practitioner along their journey, and for the tall spires that nestled among the dark storm clouds over the Dark Forest.
Such is the origin of the Three Great Schools of Magix.

Schools of Magic: Magix and Beyond
In the intervening years, more planets and realms began to adopt the school system that was set up by the Vandestalk siblings. Other schools have since risen to incredible prominence in Magix and other major realms. Such schools include the following:
Linphea College of Magic for Fairies and Paladins
Beta Academy for Magical Creatures
Malacoy Paladin Academy
The Golden Auditorium
However, none have reached such fame as Zaltora Academy of Sorcery, alma mater of King Consort Nabu Andros-Kasper. Unlike its sister branches of magic in dark and light, neutral magic and sorcery had remained a mostly unknown concept until several centuries prior. In response, Zaltora Academy had been established by the now-renowned Sorcerer Antonio Alabaster of the realm of Andros, meant to cater to sorcerers and sorceresses that did not belong in conventional schools of magic.
After King Consort Nabu used his mastery of sorcery to close the shadow abyss opened by the Wizards of the Black Circle, Zaltora began rising to prominence. Zaltora's fame reached an all-time high several years after Queen Aisha and King Consort Nabu wed. At the same time, it brought much attention to sorcerers and sorceresses in the Magix Dimension. As more and more students came to Zaltora's original institute in Andros, the original school building could no longer afford to teach so many students. The headmaster of the time, Sorcerer Nicolaus Amidelian of Attica, was offered the chance to move Zaltora to Magix and join the Three Great Schools around the bank of Lake Roccaluce. Headmaster Nicolaus agreed, moving the main school to Magix with an expanded building, while the original building remained a branch in Andros, which has historically produced the most sorcerers and sorceresses in all of Magix.
After Zaltora Academy's main building was moved to the shore of the Lake Roccaluce, it became known as one of the schools on par with the Three Great Schools itself, and the term was thereafter changed to acknowledge Zaltora's presence, becoming the Four Great Schools instead.

Magic in the World of Magix
In the Magix-verse, magic suffuses the world. All beings and life is infused with magic, and all humans can use magic. Four different types of magic broadly encompass all the magic in the universe. They are, from most to least common, wild magic, light and dark magic, as well as grey or neutral magic.
Wild Magic
Wild magic suffuses the entire world of Magix. It's the magic used by the Great Dragons to create the world, and it's the ambient magic that still hangs in the air. In old magical locations, like Alfea, Cloud Tower and Red Fountain, wild magic is thick and condensed, and the locations act as magic sinks that store it in abundance.
However, wild magic is not only limited to places. Beings like Selkies, Pixies, and pixie pets also use wild magic. It runs through their blood and makes them much more attuned to nature and the world around them.
Humans can also use wild magic, though few of them know this. As children, young humans tend to instinctively use wild magic before they begin to learn to use their innate magical abilities. This is particularly apparent in children with domains over natural elements like flora, fauna, air, water, earth, etc.
Once they are at their magical majority (the age of which is commonly agreed to be 16), magic in humans usually tends to settle in one way or another. Select humans, however, still retain their ability to use wild magic in the form of the Nymphs and Ancients, who are specifically chosen to succeed a prior Nymph or Ancient that shares the same domain of control.
Light and Dark Magic
When humans grow up, their magic is typically predisposed to lean towards the extremes of the spectrum, being light on one end and dark on the other. This is most commonly seen in Fairies and Witches, who make up the vast majority of magic users in Magix.
Fairies are, of course, female light magic users. They are famous for their beautiful and colourful wings, and multiple transformation stages that they can access, allowing them access to progressively more and more abilities.
Their male counterparts are the Paladins, of which Professor Avalon is an example. Paladins are also able to access transformations, though theirs are generally less varied compared to the Fairies. In comparison to the gossamer wings that Fairies generally have, Paladin wings tend to be feathered, and they grow bigger and the feathers longer as they grow more powerful.
Meanwhile, Witches are the quintessential female dark magic users. They also have transformations like Fairies, but theirs are much more difficult to access as dark magic can be much more difficult to control healthily. To compensate, Witches tend to have stronger abilities in magic even without transforming.
Their male counterparts are the Wizards, whom we see in the series the Wizards of the Black Circle. However, 'wizard' is a term that is commonly used for all male magic users regardless of magic type, as Wizards are the most common male magic user. Unlike the Witches or Paladins, Wizards cannot transform. Instead, their magic ability increases alongside a 'Circle' they create as a focus.
Some select humans have the ability to access both ends of the spectrum at the same time, but it is rare, as human magic tends to like to lean one side or the other. Most of these rare humans tend to pick one side and stay with it, and most never discover their ability.
Neutral Magic
Finally, the rarest of the magic users in Magix are the neutral magic users. Some genetic lineages have innate magic that has difficulty leaning 'light' or 'dark' as most magic does. These people cast neutral magic as a result, and they are known as Sorcerors and Sorceresses. Nabu is one such example of a Sorceror, though he is commonly misidentified as a Wizard by many.
Sorcerers and Sorceresses craft a focus of their choice in their early education, most typically from an element that is related to their domain of control. When they are at their most powerful, they have the ability to access a final transformation that usually features their domain of control.
Magix's Creation Mythos
(First of all, my apologies for not uploading anything the previous few days -- had to slough through school exams! In apology, have a post about the creation mythos of Magix -- the accurate one, as told by Bloom in the prologue of BIAS).
The Story of Creation
When the world was first created, it was blank. An abyss of deepest black, endless and forever reaching. There was nothing but an endless darkness that was thrumming and pulsing with endless potential.
Then, one day, a spark was born. The world collided its matter together, swirling and clashing with itself, until a spark of light was created, and that light illuminated the world in a bright flash. This was the first indication of magic in the world, a flicker of wild, uncontrolled light that chased back the darkness.
The light did not dim. For many years, the spark remained there, in the middle of the endless darkness, occasionally flickering with brightness, occasionally lost in the abyss, but it was there; it was always there. And it was growing in size by each passing moment. Each flicker beat back the darkness just a bit more, and the light began to grow, wilder and brighter, until one day, it gave rise to fire.
The flames produced by the light were massive and wild, and they twisted into a long, serpentine shape -- horned and whiskered, scaled and yet with soft hair… it became a dragon. A massive dragon that lit up the world with its wild flames. Thus was the birth of the Great Dragon, and through the flames that made up its great body, it could conduct the matter in the world, reshaping particles into something else.
With a mighty roar, the Great Dragon tore through the darkness, and ripped away at it until the bare magic of the world was exposed to it. It dove into the magic, saturating its flame with it until the dragon was one with the magic, and magic was one with it. But what use was this mighty power with none to enjoy it with? It considered it, granted sentience by the magic now coursing through its flickering flames, and the Great Dragon split itself into six equal portions, creating for itself five brethren.
From its grand, shining scales, it created the Holy Dragon, and illuminated the golden, glowing being with the brightest light. The Holy Dragon outshone even the Great Dragon’s luminance, and brought light and life to the darkened abyss, chasing away the darkness and providing hope to all those who saw it.
From its still beating heart, it created the Mother Dragon, and granted the earthen, matronly being with the love of nature. The Mother Dragon blessed the barren worlds, bringing them into being and giving them life, which grew and flourished under her watch, ever changing and evolving, but always at peace with their creators.
From its sharp, sleek horns, it created the Platinum Dragon, and granted the mechanical, stoic being with the highest intelligence. The Platinum Dragon gave intelligence to life, and granted them sentience, equipping them to better survive, even as the world around them conspired to thrive.
From its deadly, fatal talons, it created the Muse Dragon, and granted the majestic, fierce being with the most fiery of passions. The Muse Dragon inspired artists and musicians, fanned the flames of passion in warriors, giving them a drive to continue onwards when they lost their faith.
From its long, scaly tail, it created the Serpent Dragon, and granted the mysterious, sleek being with the hardiest adaptability. The Serpent Dragon sank into deep waters, and silently watched over the deep, guarding against any future dangers and preventing them from arising once more to threaten the world that had been newly crafted.
The Six Great Dragons of Magix chose their patron planets -- the Great Dragon laid itself on Domino, realm of eternal flame, and calmed the raging fires; the Holy Dragon claimed for itself Solaria, realm of twin suns, and gave them a moon to guard over them at night; the Mother Dragon chose Linphea, realm of flourishing life, and extended the reach of nature to the ends of the planet; the Platinum Dragon made the selection of Zenith, realm of advancements and technology, and taught them its crafts; the Muse Dragon patronized Melody, realm of the fine arts, and ushered in a new era of art to the world; and the Serpent Dragon submerged itself within the depths of Andros, realm of oceans, and guarded the entrances it held to other realms that had been created.
Thus, the realm of Magix was created.
Winx Girls, Post Canon
I established in the opening chapter of Before It All Starts (BIAS) that I do not consider anything post Season 4 and post the first two movies to be canon to the Magixverse, and it still holds true, though the transformations are now considerably more questionable in their canonicity.
This post, and a few of the big posts from here, therefore, shall be dedicated to explaining things and tying up those loose ends first and foremost.
The Timeline
Canonically, the placement of the second movie was never explicitly states. However, for the purpose of the Magixverse, we have Season 1-3, Lost Kingdom, Season 4, and Magic Adventure, which is the conclusion of the canon timeline. Since Magic Adventure features Nabu alive and well, and Roxy is not at Alfea, it takes place a few months down the line after the conclusion of S4, giving some time for Nabu to wake up from his coma, and with the school term still not over yet, Roxy is scheduled to attend Alfea the next year.
The Magixverse series begins 21 years after Magic Adventure wraps up, making the original Winx girls and the Specialists 40-41 years old.
For the purpose of the timeline, to not be confusing, I'll be equating S4 to be roughly 2009-early 2010, since that was when it came out. The Magix dimension does operate on a different time calendar, but that's the topic of another day.
> Settling Down
Post 2nd Movie, each of the couples eventually settled in and got married. Timeline wise, Bloom and Sky were the first to get married, doing so in the year immediately after (late 2010). They would not take the throne until about 2015, letting their parents help to coordinate the kingdoms at large while they worked on how they would be ruling the two kingdoms together.
Aisha and Nabu got married in early 2011, and unlike Bloom and Sky, they took the throne as Queen and King Consort at the end of the year.
Musa and Riven got married in early 2012, and they, along with Timmy and Tecna, travelled the dimensions for a bit on a nice, relaxing vacation, mostly for Tecna and Musa to have some fun. Timmy proposed at the end of 2012 but they did not get married until 2015, where Tecna was made the Queen of Zenith and Timmy was made King Consort. Musa and Riven also moved to Zenith and they all settled down.
Stella and Brandon got married in late 2015, and soon after, Maho was born (yes, Maho was conceived out of wedlock, but no, this was not a shotgun wedding. Brandon proposed before he or Stella knew). Stella and Brandon took over from Radius in 2016.
Flora and Helia were the last ones to get married (they tied the knot in late 2015, just a month after Stella and Brandon), but they did so in a private ceremony with only their closest friends and family present. They had spent much of their time before this going between Central Magix (the city), and Linphea, helping out with Alfea and Red Fountain. Between Flora's status as Linphea's Guardian Fairy and Helia's family legacy, they were gifted with a Dukedom from the Linphean Royal family as a wedding present.
> The Mythical Ultimix
Six years after Domino was recovered (late 2016), the Winx and Specialist were informed of the mythical source of magic that could potentially endanger the dimensions if unleashed in the wrong hands. Maho was a year old, and Naida and Lilliana had just been born. Bloom was receiving visions from the Great Dragon of a future that would and could destroy the world, and as such, the Winx and Specialists set off to find the secure the Source, as they believed it could be a target.
During this search, the Winx Club were forced to split up, seeking out individual trials scattered across the entirety of the Magix dimension. They barely passed the trials...
But they were not deemed worthy.
In punishment, the Source revoked their magics as they sought to escape and regroup, but it allowed them one lifeline. Bloom pleaded with the Great Dragon to help, and he allowed her to split the Dragon's Flame, sending it to her fellow friends through the will of magic, and only through the Dragon's Flame did the Winx escape their failed attempts.
The Dragon's Flame rejuvenated the Winx's magics, and it granted them the Evolved Enchantix form they have in BIAS, but the Ultimix was lost forever, never to be found again...
Or is it?
Draco: The Great Dragon
There's maybe something ironic in how I'm choosing to focus so heavily on the Dragons in my first few posts, but I can't help it! I've come up with so many cool ideas for the Dragons that likely will never come up in the stories proper, so I shall unload all of them here!
Anyway, today's just a quick post about the Great Dragon, appropriately enough named Draco. Also, here's a concept sketch I did for his human form!

Lore/Trivia
Draco is the name of the Great Dragon, the Creator of Magix and the Life Bringer. He is the leader of the Six Dragons of Magix and is the source of the ever-burning Dragon's Flame. Prior to creating the other Five, he was locked in an eternal battle with the Shadow Phoenix, a creature formed in opposition with his creation, but with ingenuity and resilience, he trapped the other being and defeated it, creating a safe area in the abyss to create the world of Magix.
> When the Ancestral Witches created Valtor, the corrupted Dragon's Flame fragment took the form of its originator, so in a more show-accurate style, Draco looks like a less smarmy Valtor, just with flaming hair a la Hades and golden eyes.
>> While we're on that note, Draco's slit pupils and fiery hair are a result of him being unable to completely disguise his magic. The Dragons are not flesh and blood beings in the first place, but Draco's overwhelming power manifests in a strong outward manner that he was never able to really hide in plain sight.
>> All of Draco's guises, human or not, tend to have red hair and golden eyes. They also tend to be really tall/large, even compared to the statuesque stature of the Dragons in general.
>>> His preferred human guise is about 6'10", or in legible units, around 2.1m. In contrast, Camena is the shortest of the Dragons in her preferred guise, only being around 5'9" (or 175 cm).
> Draco does prefer to assume male guises and use male pronouns, but he is technically a genderless being made of magic. He is the most consistent of the Dragons in terms of the genders of his guises,
> Draco does occasionally speak to Daphne, who had learnt bits and pieces of Ancient Dominese prayers as a Nymph. (Don't tell Bloom, but Daphne was always his favourite Bearer of the Flame in the past century)
> Despite what you would expect, Draco is the most even-tempered out of all the Dragons, even the gentle tree-hugging Alitura. It takes a lot to truly enrage him, and when you do, well-- you don't want to know. Being aeons-old and spending a lot of time in the abyss has given him the patience of a saint.
The Six Dragons of Magix
For the first post, I thought I'd talk a little about the largest divergence from canon: the existence of six great dragons that created the Magix universe as compared to the singular Great Dragon in canon.
When it came into being, the Great Dragon split itself off into 5 others, those being the Holy Dragon, the Mother Dragon, the Muse Dragon, the Platinum Dragon, and the Serpent Dragon respectively. Each of those dragons embodied a different part of life that would come to be: fire, light, nature, passion, rationality, and water.
The Dragons created life in Magix and each chose to settle down and pass away on a planet of their choosing. The Great Dragon, of course, laid to rest on Domino, while the other five dragons respectively chose Solaria, Linphea, Melody, Zenith, and Andros, blessing each land with their presence even many years on, though many have since forgotten about them.
Each of the dragons, much like their creator and brother, the Great Dragon, possessed a spark of power, however, when the six Dragons passed on, all their powers were recombined into the Dragon's Flame and passed down into the royal bloodline of Domino, only to be reawakened years later when Bloom, Queen of Domino, split her flame between her and her five closest friends on a dangerous expedition... (but that's a story for another time ;)
When the Dragons were still alive, they would, from time to time, assume the form of humans and walk amongst their creations to see how they lived and the worries they faced, in an attempt to understand them better. Essentially, they were gods in human form, though their true being was contained in the realm they had chosen, rendering them functionally immortal.
A few trivia points about the dragons that may be explored further in future posts:
> The dragons are beings of pure magic; they're not really gendered creatures, though as they can and do take on the form of gendered beings, they do have preferences. The Great Dragon, Platinum Dragon and Serpent Dragon usually assume male forms; the Holy Dragon, Mother Dragon and Muse Dragon typically assume female forms.
> Each of the dragons holds a special title conferred to their human guise.
>> The Great Dragon is known as the Creator
>> The Holy Dragon is the Goddess
>> The Mother Dragon is the Nymph
>> The Platinum Dragon is the Collector
>> The Muse Dragon is the Warrior
>> The Serpent Dragon is Naiad (see also the first bullet point for the use of the feminine noun)
> The Six Dragons are mostly forgotten, but in some places, far away from the modernised centre of the Magix Dimension, they are still revered as gods and are often sworn by. The Great Dragon is still considered as a god by a large part of Magix, though few actually follow the religion anymore and simply swear by it for tradition.
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Magix!
This is the tumblr blog for my Winx Club next generation story, the first instalment of which you can find here (on Fanfiction.net) or here (on AO3)!
The story is currently planned to span over five installments, each one lasting about a year in universe, and follows the daughters of the Winx, the Magix girls across their journey as they find their footing in the wide world that their mothers made their place in.
The Magixverse world is definitely strongly AU, but I try to rationalise and explain canon within the universe's boundaries, as well as do some worldbuilding and lore expansion of my own. I hope you all enjoy it!
