Deadline for NY State Affordable Healthcare registration
For those who don't get it from an employer in New York State, today is the final day to sign up for health insurance to start coverage by Jan 1.
If you've considered OSCAR, the affordable healthcare plan offered by Magnacare, here's my experience with Oscar this past year.
1. It was great when they gave 4 free primary care doctor visits: they've reduced that number to 2 this year disappointingly.
2. Having a doctor call you back (for free) within 5 minutes for emergencies, or just a real doctor to speak to when you're feeling symptoms is great.
3. They royally botched up billing my annual checkup. My preventative annual checkup which should be covered for free, was considered an outpatient visit, not covered at all, because my doctor sent the checkup bloodwork to the lab that was associated with a hospital system. Oscar categorized me as a patient who went to the hospital for non-emergency doctor visit.
4. Not needing a referral to see any doctor in their network is convenient.
That's my experience. I would give their service 3.5 out of 5 stars.
