We did some cool recording things with this track all to further the message and feeling of anxiety. I started out by using the “50s progression” and moved it into both half step up and half step down tunings together. We recorded the live drums simultaneously while doing scratch guitar in a small uncomfortable room with no room to move. The beginning slams suddenly from a slow leslie twist, the guitars wah swirls around in a panic during the bridges, the fuzz overpowers with an earful slam in the chorus, the end hangs on an unresolved note. The vocals yell to drive the entire verses. Lots of things to further the anxiety mood. Pretty crazy to think about all that made this track what it is! “Xennial is about being a subset group of both the generation x and millennial called Xennial. It is the last group of people that exist pre/post cellphones and the internet. Today, nearly everything is broadcast and too often I feel we look to social media for self esteem and everyday manners. As I see it, it causes groupthink on many levels and is personally destructive in maintaining earnest face to face relationships with the much needed give and take of emotion. Social media adds in constraining me with an abnormal amount of societal anxiety.
