HEY! Very important question for a specialist of the Narnia series. First off, how many movies were made? And are they close to the original books or is it better to just read the books? I don't want the movies to be as slaughtered as the HP ones aha 😅 Thank you, have a good day and keep up the wonderful art and hc! 💞
hello! haha, thanks for coming to me. so, three movies were made, but there is also a bbc miniseries that’s quite old that spanned most of the books, i believe. i don’t actually watch those though– i can’t sit through them. there’s also a cartoon though i’m not versed in that and it’s also very old and janky. i wouldn’t rec watching them first.
the movies are alright. the first one, the lion the witch and the wardrobe, is the most faithfully adapted, and while it does deviate it’s a nice little watch. the child acting is good.
the movie for prince caspian is where it really starts to deviate, and mischaracterises a lot of the characters, as well as removes susan’s whole plotline in favour of a few semi-romantic scenes with caspian. it’s still a good watch, the soundtrack for the first two are great, the cinematography and costuming is really good too.
the third movie went to a different studio, and is really….nothing like the book. the voyage of the dawntreader movie is my least favourite, as it destroyed the relationships caspian had with edmund and lucy, as well as his dynamic with eustace. they aged him up a lot and thus it isolated him from the actual relationships had with the book. the whole storyline is different too– the book is more … adventure-y? i prefer the book.
all in all, the characters were pretty much aged up in the movies, and it lost a lot of the depth. i really recommend starting with the books, and then going onto the movies and any other media you might like. i have a lot of issues with the books– but in my opinion, it’s the best way to start. i’d recommend reading them in publishing order, and there are PDFs online so you can read them for free!
so i do really enjoy the movies as a mindless watch and they add something to some aspects, which i can go in depth about if you want me to! i think prince caspian did take… BIG liberties with peter’s character, but i’m on the fence on how bad that actually was. it made him seem more human to me.
stil! if you do read and watch the content, hit me up! i’d love to hear your thoughts on it all <3
