I wrote that scene first before I wrote the full version but by the time I got there in the actual fic the tone & timing didn't mix. Selene was in training and Kit with his naginana was too lighthearted. I still like this version though :)

how big is the centre to be able to have individual rooms for everyone in residential instead of dorms?

oh! they're single rooms but residential is a dorm still

you have a tiny shoebox room with a bed that touches 3 walls and a box for your personal effects under it, a dresser that fits a few days' worth of clothes, and everything else (bathrooms, showers, mess hall, common rooms) is communal

senior rooms are a little bigger as a privilege for making it to the final cohort but there are only like, 6-10 kids in there per year, so

What's with your brutus characterization in loki's avengers game stuff? lmao, I felt he was unnecessarily mean to him at times.

the shortest answer is "check the date"

the slightly less short answer is "it was loki's story and i needed a background character to fill a role", to which brutus got handed a situation that put him in the worst possible light and, like claudius, did not allow for him to exist as a fully rendered character

which is why i then spent the next several solid years writing AUs AND canon stories to explore him in a more holistic way

How big are the centre dorms if every single “student” is able to have their own room? Or are there shared rooms for certain people?

i really can't exaggerate how small the shoebox dorm rooms are, like the kids call them that for a reason.

there's a twin bed that touches 3 walls, and a tiny dresser with enough room for your clothes (uniforms, casual, pjs + spare of each). the box of stuff you bring with you slides under the bed. that's it!

(rowan and blake manage to fit both their mattresses together by stacking both bed frames and dressers into rowan's and putting the mattresses directly on the floor in blake's room. it takes up the whole room and they have to bring their uniform in the night before)

once you pass your field exam you're moved to the senior wing, where the room has the exact same layout but a bit more space (bed only touches TWO walls lol). of course the volunteers get a proper room with private ensuite but that's part of the conditioning as well

Afe careers usually taught in residential who’s each victor’s mentor is? Or is that something that’s just picked up overtime when rewatching tapes. Question popped up when I was rereading fixed to a star and Claudius didn’t seem to known Nero was lyme’s mentor

nah, they only know the ones who mentor while they're in Residential

they know basic stats (how many victors each mentor has etc) but they don't need to know names. you CAN look that up but it's like, extra, and not many people do it. they have enough to do!

Lachlan is extremely data-driven and he likes looking at stats and trends; Claudius cares about who Lyme has mentored and that's it lol

Is there a specific reason Nero and Brutus aren’t especially close/friends even though they have a similar age gap Brutus and Lyme(best friends)do?

OK so -- they are friends! I just haven't have room to write it much

Nero / Callista / Brutus is a great dynamic that I have only ever hinted at the edges of. Both Nero & Calli adopted Brutus when he was a baby victor, which is why he's one of the chief babysitters of her cats even though he grouses and says he hates them (like all those videos of dads-who-hate-the-pet lmao). Brutus ALSO had a wicked crush on Calli and got put down pretty quickly but she learned from Nero to be a bit less, ah, shot through the heart about it.

Brutus & Nero have a very "he's one of my best friends, we still never talk sometimes" relationship where they sit and maybe have a drink and build something with their hands, and it helps Brutus process stuff when he doesn't want to talk about it (this is often). He's also often the victim of Nero's sense of humour (I have another ask sitting about this lol SORRY) but there's a random thing in a fic somewhere about Brutus having to build Nero a cedar chest after losing a bet with him (Brutus is allergic to cedar, not majorly but it makes him sneeze) and I feel like that's a common theme. As in, they have a long-running history of stupid bets with stupid stakes for no reason.

Brutus is one of the ones who knows about Nero's deal and takes on several of his sponsors when he can. They do NOT talk about this.

(Brutus and Lyme specifically was engineered by several parties as soon as it became clear Lyme & Emory would not work (from BOTH sides to be fair, this isn't just "Lyme would be mean"). They probably would not have on their own. Cross-generation ("generation" lol but you know what I mean) friendships DO happen, Calli and Adessa are famous stitch-and-bitchers, but they had common ground from the start. Brutus and Lyme needed a bit of finagling.)

Brutus / Calli / Nero really is just a tragedy of POV i think, in Fixed to a Star he says Brutus and Lyme aren't friends because they don't act naturally in front of him when he's fresh out. Although I do think that they were a stronger unit when Brutus was younger and once he and Lyme really took off as friends Nero & Calli released him back into the wild with a sense of accomplishment. They'll still hang out (and torment) him sometimes, but he has a bigger emotional world now.

(The sad thing is they probably spend more time together on the Capitol circuit but I don't write that as much for obvious reasons)

i would say i'll try to keep this in mind for something but "fic where brutus and nero build a chair in silence" is more of a visual medium type thing and comics are not my specialty

Are Emory and Frigga(51/52nd) back to back victors in your avengers games verse? Or was Emory not created back then

oh no they are and it’s super awkward!

normally they’d be friends but that’s her husband’s victor / her mentor’s wife and it’s ……… well you can’t, it’s like your dad marrying someone in your class, you can’t hang out at the mall it’s too weird!

It’s also awkward because Emory isn’t much of a talker and Frigga assumes that she’s judging her for getting married so young and Emory thinks Frigga is judging her for the default win and Brutus doesn’t get in the middle of it or talk to either of them because it feels like crossing a line

eventually they do manage to clear THAT one up but Emory finds her peers with Misha & Devon and Frigga has found Lyme and they’re not really ever going to be buddies I think, but they can at least be in the same place without it being crushingly uncomfortable
