🔥 about Vtubers (japanese scene, english scene or even about the concept)
VTubers are great! As someone who almost decided to become one (and decided to take a break from the idea as i did not feel ready enough), the concept is really appealing to me, both as a creator and as an audience, and the reason is simple: it’s anonymity and role playing. Aside from friends or a very few people (Content creators that i like who stream occasionally, Vinesauce dudes or Jerma), I don’t really like streamers for the reason that... They’re real people? It’s hard to explain, but i find it intrusive! Vtubers kind of cancel that. Hololive especially. They are real people but they play characters first and foremost and they all have their specific quirks that make them likeable (i’m mostly thinking of Pekora’s “peko” tic, her laugh and her habit of getting explosive when her pranks doesn’t go her way or when she gets teased).
Aside from Tsukino Mito (who is the Best vtuber ever, sorry not sorry), i don’t watch Nijisanji a lot, bc i prefer Hololive streamers, but i read about how the two agencies manage their talents and i definitely prefer Nijisanji’s ways than Hololive. I think it’s dangerous to treat streamers like idol culture, the way cover corp does.
Which brings me to this precise opinion i have: i do not like it when people are intrusive about vtubers. When people are big fans and watch their streams on the regular, it’s great! But when this turns into a creepy obsession, NOTABLY by talking about the person behind the character and knowing/spreading rumors about their personal lives or the most serious aspects of the person (or psychoanalyzing them by taking out-of-context, sometimes mistranslated clips)... this is where i draw the line. Because it’s exporting the very issue i have about regular streamers in here, where it was initially nonexistent.
Also, i’m probably going to sound like a dick, but a lot of hololive fans out here creep me out for real. Obligatory Fandom Rant Disclaimer: I am NOT talking about the regular fans who enjoy the contents and are normal about it. Here, I’m talking about a very specific (and dare i say loud minority) of fans who act indecently. This includes: tasteless and repetitive unfunny memes (i instantly stop watching any clip that include that), mistranslating or doing poor translation job, spreading oftentimes awful rumors out of baseless claims, being obsessively intrusive because of the parasocial relationship... And even, dare i say, mischaracterizing real people. I don’t like that at all! It’s like taking the worst aspects of the infamous bad side of the Touhou fandom to real people.
AND MY LAST OPINION is that Fubuki’s voice is very pretty to hear, that Korone is a very nice person that i admire greatly, that Hololive EN members are really fun to watch and that i adore their designs, that i strive to design a character design as cool as Polka’s, and that THE CLIP OF PEKORA ATTEMPTING TO PRANK MIKO BY MAKING HER FALL THROUGH A TRAP DOOR ONLY FOR MIKO TO NOT FALL ON THREE TRIES AND THAT PEKORA IS HTE ONE WHO FALLS IS A LITERAL LOONEY TUNES SCENE THAT I NEVER GET OVER
