he never says it, but he appreciates her. dean appreciates her never-ending patience, her presence by his side no matter what he ends up going through. he's lost his brother and dean's an absolute mess ― he'd do anything to get sam back. she knows this, has tried her best to talk him down from the edge. remilia knows all too well the extents that dean would go to to save his brother, knows too well the extreme things that he contemplates because he's been left alone to do that now. he can't say how he appreciates her, but he can show it. he gets her breakfast from the place down the street before she wakes, and then gently shakes her awake, the scent of eggs rising from covered sandwich on nightstand. ❝ hey, wakey wakey, sleepyhead. i got you breakfast. we've gotta get goin' soon. ❞

𝕿his is becoming something of a habit for him.

the pursing of full lips, the taut knots on his forehead from constant frowning, the ( naive ) presumption that he, being king, can never, ever be told no. . .

to put it plainly, he believes life is simpler now than in the old days. and that is mostly true, considering he wears the finest silks in the realm every other day, dines on mouth-watering dishes he wouldn't even recognize back in finchley, and --most conspicuous of all-- the fact that he wears upon his head a heavy crown inlaid with birch leaves of pure silver.

however, if there is one thing that has not changed over the years it's his brother's authority. if anything, bearing the title of high king seems to have only strengthened it. so yes, don't blame him for still sulking since this morning.

“ it does not befit a king to pout, ” says @maidmyth .

what follows is a suppressed huff from him, chest fluttering as he exhales, eyes closing briefly as though he needs a moment of self-encouragement to digest her attentive nagging.

oh, how he hates when they're right.

HE FEELS LIKE HE shouldn't need to hear it from her, but he can't ignore the relief that floods him at her reassurance. he knows this, logically, but it feels completely different when it's threatened, & the reassurance has bucky lowering hackles & finally facing & focusing on her, instead of the ass who'd been flirting with her. small quirk of lips accompanies a grateful look in steel grey eyes, & bucky leans down for a gentle kiss before reaching to take one of remilia's hands in his flesh one. ❝ thank you, ❞ he says softly, so only she can hear, & then presses a kiss to her forehead, still feeling that protective edge that had flared up immediately at the situation. ❝ i know, baby. & i feel the same way. no one's ever had me like you do. ❞

HIS TONE IS SOLEMN, but the expression on his features is not as heavy as it could be ; brightened by her presence, & reassured by her support. the night terrors that he gets almost daily have once again woken him, but this time, because she's slept over, they wake her too. she takes the time to sit with him, & he finally meets her gaze minutes after she'd woken. his own is apologetic, & the slight smile he gives is more akin to a grimace, but he's trying his best. ❝ thank you for being here with me, ❞ bucky says, but doesn't yet trust himself to reach for her hand, much as he wants to. he doesn't want to push things, when it all still seems so delicate between them. ❝ i usually need a midnight snack after that. d'you care for one too ? ❞ he asks as he moves to rise to feet.

normally, cameron is used to being alone; often a solitary figure in these moments, standing on the outskirts of the action, never fully included. the gloves on hands a conspicuous feature that often leaves others wary; glances given are critical, & most of the time cameron decides to leave all together. this is one of those times, when he's retreated to corner of room, not to be disturbed ― until she approaches, and his icy glare turns into a friendly greeting. remilia is one of the few people who never asks, always gentle & considerate in interactions, & cameron appreciates her for it. ❝ yours is always welcome company, remilia, ❞ the prince says warmly, a little thawing of stone cold heart when in her presence. ❝ please tell me i'm not the only one who finds these balls . . . excessive. ❞
