omg thank you professor mel-inonii
if someone referred to chips without other context which kind of food would you assume they were talking about
If it's just someone talking about how much they love chips, I'd probably assume potato chips, since it's more likely.
But usually there is some context - if you're talking about chips with dinner, it's probably what Americans call fries. If you're saying you'll bring chips to a party, it'll probably be potato chips.
It's partially age dependent too - younger people (like idk 40 and below) are more likely to use American vocab.
you mentioned j wolfman and my mind brain blasted into the past it was wild
WHOA WHOA WHOA, the name rings a bell for you too? This is crazy!
I don't even remember anything about his work, just that the fics were plotty and kid!me loved them.
A couple of years ago, I went looking, and found some of his stuff out there on the Internet. The site where I'd read it (Fox's Crew) is defunct, but some of the fics were crossposted to ffnet. And I sat there like... curious about them, wondering what was in them, but knowing that the actual writing would never hold up to my memories of the joy of reading it.
