“Can you imagine Jared’s face when he finds out we’re dating?”

Kay snorted into her soda, sending a thin mist of the drink into her face. Coughing, she wiped at her eyes and scolded her girlfriend. “Don’t say stuff like that until I’m done, thanks!”

Giggling, Mai playfully swatted her with a napkin and leaned on her. “I’m serious! We both think he’s the most gorgeous man to grace this Earth, and he’s not really the oblivious type, so if the two cutest girls in school who were both into him suddenly a thing…” For all her mumbling, Mai received a damp, balled-up napkin to the face and more incredulous laughter. 

It was a nice, fall evening where the cold was neither absent nor biting, and the colors of fall were as vibrant as ever. Leaves of all shades of red, yellow, and orange littered the ground of the Higanbana park they had managed to sneak off to, soft crunching being heard as Mai got up to dispose of her trash. They were lucky that there was a place far enough from the school that they wouldn’t be seen but close enough to actually go and come back within a day. Otherwise the pair would have to resort to the not-so-secret hallway closet makeout spot and it was too easy to get caught there by a certain misunderstood nurse. 

Ah the joys of keeping everything under wraps. 

Kay looked over at the redhead (who was occupied trying to aim her empty soda can directly into the waste basket) sitting next to her fondly, examining every detail of the image so it would stay ingrained in her mind forever.

Mai’s hair blended almost perfectly with the autumn’s red of the fallen leaves, the light olive of her eyes complimenting the red and black plaid overshirt that she had charmed out of Kay because she was “freezing her ass off.”

Kay had wanted to point out that wearing a tanktop during fall and near sunset was a pretty stupid idea, but since the weather was fair (and Mai looked so cute wearing it) she didn’t mind giving it up. Plus her smell would still be on it for awhile and, seeing as they would have to part when they got back to school, she wanted a reminder of the day they had spent together. To make sure it wasn’t a dream.

Kay’s smile dropped at the thought and she tensed up as unpleasant thoughts began to creep in her mind.

She doesn’t want to be seen with you…Is she embarrassed? 

Is this serious for her or is she using you?

She still has fun making jokes about this. Doubt she’s gotten over Jared, probably using you. 

Kay shook her hair out of her face as she countered herself. You don’t just get over Jared, I haven’t! Besides, Mai’s open and honest and me doubting her is just…

Kay jumped as a loud cheer erupted from right next to her, Mai celebrating as her can flew directly into the trash. Nevermind the half dozen or so that littered the ground, but she hopped off the bench to pick them up. Kay bit her lip.

…a real dick move.

“Hey!” 

Kay blinked as Mai waved a hand in front of her face, her eyes darting from different parts of Kay’s face in rapid succession as she searched her expression. “Something wrong?”

Her girlfriend 

Mai half-smiled and shrugged. “Nothing, just wondering if maybe you were too cold or the food wasn’t good or you remembered how much you prefer Jared to me and that I’m not a good enough person for you because, wow are you a great person, but maybe–mmf!”

Kay had gotten out of her seat and put an end to the girl’s rambling with a classic kiss, her face red from either anger or passion. Perhaps both.

When she pulled back, she took hold of both of a blushing Mai’s shoulders and plastered a stern look on her face, going into full-on lecture mode.

“Ms. Sasaki! You are one gorgeous, kind, and wonderful human being! And, if you’re ever mean to my girlfriend again, I will not hesitate to spray you with pop! Now,” she leaned in so that their foreheads touched. “Another kiss please!”

Mai giggled and made to move closer, but…Kay pulled back suddenly. Question marks could practically be seen above Mai’s head as she cocked her head and Kay steeled herself.

“W-when we come out!” Kay blurted out. “I’m going to drown you in kisses everyday!”

A wide grin replaced Mai’s puzzled expression from before, as she pulled Kay in for another smooch.

“I can’t wait!”

ProKay: Jared loves how passionate Kay is about the things she loves to do!! Whether it’s watching her paint or perform, he can’t help but smile when she’s lost in her favorite things.

MaiKay: Mai just adores how easily Kay blushes!! She loves to make her girlfriend smile and laugh and watch her cheeks turn bright red. 

❤️: Describe your first date!

ProKay: Aside from the flower festival, Jared took Kay to a really fancy restaurant where they sat by the window and gazed at the starry night sky (yknow bc she has a thing for space). Watching Kay stare out the window made Jared realize he had fallen in love with her.

MaiKay: They went to a garden and walked around, taking in everything around them. The sights, the smells, the warm breeze on the back of their necks; it couldn’t have been a more perfect day. They didn’t talk to each other a whole lot, but just being together in that moment was enough to make them both realize that they wanted to be more than just friends.

💋: Do you have nicknames for each other?

ProKay: Jared calls her Princess or Cupcake, Kay calls him Sparkles or Sparklebutt.

MaiKay: Mai calls her Kay Kat, Kay calls her Red.

📖: What’s your favorite thing to do together?

ProKay: Nature walks in the park !!! Smelling the flowers, sitting together on the swings, etc.

MaiKay: Cuddle together on the couch and watch whatever anime Mai is into that week. Kay usually falls asleep by the end of the show so Mai will stay put until she wakes up.

maikay headcanon: mai absolutely loves picking kay up all the time, whenever the hell!! she loves spinning her gf around in her hella toned arms and just the little surprised squeal that kay lets out is super adorable!! it melts her heart.
