Kourubi never thought she’d be moving in with Mai of all people, but if she was honest, it didn’t really surprise her either. They got along like a house on fire, especially when it came to giving Ryou shit. And, to be fair, he gave it back in equal measure, so it was fine.

Kourubi turned at the sound of her door opening to see Mai carrying a huge stack of her boxes. “Ah, you didn’t have to do that! I could have gotten it. Do you need help?”

“Nah, it’s alright,” Mai said with a brilliant smile. “It’s not heavy. I’m stronger than I look.”

Kourubi decided to ignore the way that made her heart jump…for now.

01 Kourubi/Mai

“Mai.” Kourubi’s voice was deceptively calm considering the circumstances. “You just ran that stop sign.”

“Fuck,” Mai hissed, scrubbing at her eyes with the back of her hand. “Didn’t see it.”

“I know. I’m amazed you can see anything though all those tears.” Kourubi looked at her, concern so evident on her face that it almost made Mai mad.

The breaks squealed as she took the turn too tight, too fast.

“Mai!” She flinched at the frightened sound of Kourubi’s voice.

“Shit…I’m sorry…I just.”

A hand rested on hers.

“Pull over. Let me drive for a while.”

35 Mai/Kourubi

Mai stared at Kourubi, unable to fully comprehend what she’d just said. “What?!”

“You heard me!” Kourubi said, voice firm and at the edge of sounding very angry. “Take. It. Off.”

“I am not taking off my shirt in the middle of the woods!” Mai snapped.

“How else do you expect me to be able to treat your wound?!” Kourubi demanded, tossing her brown hair over her shoulder. It’d grown much longer in the past few months. Long enough that Mai could really play with it. Which she was itching to do, now that she was thinking about it. But that probably wouldn’t go over well right now.

“Ryou wouldn’t need me to take my shirt off,” she grumbled.

Kourubi swatted at her shoulder. Mai…barely felt it. “Well I’m not Ryou! I need to see how bad it is so I can treat it properly!”

“Fine.”

Kourubi’s eyes went wide when Mai actually tugged her shirt up over her head, revealing not only the nasty gash in her side, but her well sculpted physique. Kourubi had never really thought about how built Mai would have to be to pull off the feats of strength she did on a regular basis. But…damn.

“You gonna do something about the fact I’m bleeding out, or what?”

Kourubi nearly dropped the antiseptic. “Oh! R-right!” She bent her head and immediately began tending the wound.

Mai smirked.
