Today was sidequest day ! Before heading to the Institute, I’ve gone around the map and completed some of the sidequests and companion quests I hadn’t picked up yet.
The Last voyage of the USS Constitution is still one of the best quests in the game, and yet it’s nothing special compared to most quests in a decently written game. The Silver Shroud is fun but still limited to “go here and kill folks”. The Nick Valentine companion quest with Eddie Winters bugged out on me so hard I had to use console commands to teleport Nick around, otherwise he just kept running into walls indefinitely. The chinese submarine quest is still kinda cool. The Saugus Ironworks quest with the Forged is meh.
On my way to Virgil’s cave, I stopped by the Crater of Atom, convinced that they wouldn’t have added anything related to the Children of Atom division in Far Harbor. Lo and behold, I was wrong, they added a dialogue option. Far Harbor keeps on giving even after I left the Island.
Now it’s time to enter the place where the game truly fell apart for me the first time: the Institute.
