Ahhh summer, this is a challenging time of year for me. I prefer cool cloudy days or winter. I have been getting up at 4:30 to beat the heat & get my work done (also not a morning person) I am weary of the bug patrol, squishing by hand various insects & snails or the the delightful handful of squirming Japanese Beetles in my hand as I race to where my bucket of soap later resides. This morning I questioned my sanity as a gardener, I could be at the beach instead. I am finally heartened by my first raised-bed garlic harvest! Dreams of winter soups, garlicky dilly beans, & good bread slathered with roasted garlic renewed my gardening conviction!
