So I was playing around with some Mario Kart Wii hacks, and uhhhhh........
0000000F
So Toad is trending you say? ...I regret knowing why.
In anticipation of the upcoming Mario Kart Switch, I’ve gone back and played a bit of Mario Karts Double Dash, Wii, 7 and, 8 (I’ve never played or owned DS and I have a bit of trouble getting into Super or 64). From what I’m dreged up in my memories I’ve got a great idea of what I want and what I don’t want out of Mario Kart Switch. In terms of game-feel, I like Double Dash and 8. They both feel really smooth in general thanks to the constant frame rate and unlike Wii with constant attacks and 7 with under water sections that slow everything down, it’s kind of a toss-up between DD and 8 when it comes to which I like the feel of more.
In terms of playable characters, I want something like Mario Kart Wii. For all of its other faults, Mario Kart Wii had an incredibly robust line-up. Mario Kart Wii might have had babies taking up space but it’s one of the few in the series to host Birdo, Bowser Jr, Diddy Kong, Dry Bones & Bowser, Funky Kong, King Boo and Toadette. Mario Kart 8 had a good line-up but I don’t think it got to be truly great until the DLC started to roll out.
When it comes to courses, I’m hoping that Nintendo continues to adapt its other properties into Mario Kart courses. As nice as it would be to race through Neo Bowser City, Wauigi’s Pinball, or Electrodrome again, if I were given the choice between those or new courses based off of Metroid, Star Fox and, Splatoon I would go with the later. I loved the Excitebike course, the F-Zero courses, the Animal Crossing and, Zelda courses and I’d love to see more like that in the future.
In terms of customization, I feel like the series could go either way: I would be happy if kart customization were either made into a huge part of the game complete with a garage and the ability to save your creations but I would also like a return to having pre-built karts. I’m leaning more towards having a full on Kart garage though if only to give some added value to the coins that litter each race track.
Other than these major things, not a lot sticks out...Super Smash Bros for Wii U style tourney’s would be cool, a return to Mario Kart 64 or Super Mario Kart style battle arenas would be excellent, voice chat and achievements/trophies would be nice (at least until you consider online achievements which are always, ALWAYS a pain in the ass). It seems like local co-op is already basically confirmed for Mario Kart Switch but that’s been a feature in the franchise since day one so no surprise there.
I felt like building a text wall about Mario Kart so if you made it here, thanks for reading it! Maybe add on? Maybe try not to be mean at me for liking the idea of Mario & Nintendo Kart being a thing.
