Reunions of a sort
This was home.
Stormwind was Mairynn’s city and she’d tell you as much if you asked and probably even if you didn’t. But she didn’t live here anymore, not really; only for brief, but not infrequent, periods of time when she’d escape Pandaria to come and visit.
Few things made her happier than setting foot in her city again. But those few things were also not infrequent. And they almost all centered around the orphanage she’d run away from so many years before. Around the people she’d met there. They were quite often her reason for the journey back after all.
She came back when someone got adopted; she came back when someone aged out; when someone got off the streets, when someone was in more trouble than they could handle, when someone got a new job, when someone got married because holy cow some of them were that old now.
But right now? Right now she was here because she wanted to be. Because it was her turn to leave the island and go do her own thing.
So she’d set herself up on a little retaining wall with her sketch book and her pencils. Reclined against a tree with her drink at her side she drew and she hummed and she tapped her foot on the stone and she watched the city and the orphanage and all of the people passing by.
For hours she remained just like that until eventually something, no, someone caught her eye. She was up in a flash and dashing through the street to the side of a young man who was far too tall for her purposes. Once she’d reached him she had to tip her head nearly straight back to see him properly which had her lips pursing.
“Hi!” she squeaked out just as she reached for his hand. “Come with me!” She was so excited that she didn’t pause to think about whether or not she was being rude or weird or whether or not he might recognize her. If he was who she thought anyway. And she was pretty sure; she just needed to get him a little lower, or herself a little higher so she could see his face better.
And so she did her best to drag him back to her retaining wall so she could scramble up onto it and get hold of his face. Despite her excitement she took his face in her hands carefully and looked him over and as she did her smile grew. “Rhys!” Her voice squeaked again as it always did when she was too excited but that did not stop her from flinging her arms around his neck to hug him regardless of the fact that she was probably being very weird.
