* A slurry of lights runs through Cody's mind as Teiji erases the sectors of his mind tied to his memories as an infant, as a toddler, up to when he was 7, including prior memories, good or bad. He passes out, and wakes up a few minutes later, in the field where he had previously met Teiji and Daffodil, now vacant. His phone was a few feet away. He picks up his phone and dials Liz.
(Cody) ...
(Liz) *picks up phone* Heya Cody? What's up?
(Cody) Liz...i don't know how else to tell you. I met an Espeon. I guess something happened during the conversation because she had to wipe out a good chunk of our conversation, and long story short, I asked her a favor.
(Liz) Sorry to hear that! And er, that being...?
(Cody) I asked her to fix me. I requested I have all memories I had from between infancy and 7 deleted. She agreed albeit reluctantly, and I no longer know anything that happened before I was 7. I had it scrambled up. I have partial amnesia now. I'm...i'm cured.
(Liz) ARE YOU CRAZY?!? WHY WOUL--*interrupted*
(Cody) No. Not anymore. I'm...happy now. I'm on my way home. Tell Mom and Kyle.
(Liz) I can't believe you would do something so...reckless! Ugh, fine, i'll tell them! I don't know what they'll say, but i guess i'm happy for you? Does this mean you don't know who Dad is anymore?
(Cody) No, er, I don't. Were they a mew like me?
(Liz) I don't honestly know. *she lied* Anyways. I'm glad to hear. See you soon Cody. Love you.
(Cody) Love you Lizzie! *hangs up*

Layla stood in the basement of Winter’s home. It looked exactly the same as when they were planning to pull Peter out. Only this time she’d be the one in the circle and there were far more people in the room to help her.
She took a deep breath, looking down at that black sigil on the floor and hoping this would work. In her right hand was a vial that would make her drowsy, as well as make Winter drowsy, which was the over all idea.
“Is everyone ready?” she asked. Layla knew it was time. She’d take the vial, lay in the circle. Dirt would line her ankles, wrists and neck and the.... she’d hold on for dear life.
Ever since the letter from the Ministry of Magic's Charles Martin in regards to their employing Milo Thatch, the language professor had not given the project much thought. With the semester going into full swing, Milo had several different course schedules to maintain for each of the languages taught as well as their respective course materials, assignments, and exams. Not to mention, in his spare time, Milo had increasingly attempted to spend more time deciphering his grandfather's journal.
In a recent discovery, Milo had been able to reference enough pages to discover that his grandfather had indeed been truthful about his claims to owning the Shepard's Journal that of which now rests in Milo's possession. With such an invaluable artifact now belonging to him filled to the brim with all sorts of knowledge, Milo had also taken the extra precaution in setting several anti-theft charms on it as well as tracking spells. Each section of the journal, however, presented new challenges to the professor, for while one section appeared to be written in Akkadian (which, for Milo, was not too difficult to translate as he had read and deciphered the Epic of Gilgamesh in its source language a few times before) or Old Norse (which, again, Milo had deciphered from a few series of Icelandic folktales), the problem was that there were simply so many languages involved in the creation of this journal. This was, of course, exciting news to Milo rather than a detriment. It simply showed to him, at the very least, that there still existed several languages that once existed or still exists that he had yet to learn!
And while realizing that he had the authentic and genuine journal in his hands, Milo was most thrilled at the revelation of clearing his grandfather's name. All the people who pointed fingers at him and called him a fraud will be proven wrong. Milo had always admired his grandfather's ability to remain resilient in the face of so much opposition, and grew to adapt that mindset to his own personal life. The pair of them hardly let the angry words of others affect them and focused more on important matters. For now, Milo's main concern with this journal was to decipher it and restore his grandfather's legacy. Milo only wished for two things in this instance: that his grandfather was alive to help and to see such an achievement and that he had left some sort of guide to decoding the journal.
As he was beginning to make some leeway after a few months on a section of the Shepard's Journal, a curious tale of an incredible power source stemming from a magical gem rumored to belonging to a civilization long known to have ceased from present times, the first of several projects began pouring in from the Ministry. At first, they were fairly simple jobs that didn't require too much time; some leaflets and a few brief passages. And though it was an outsider job, Milo had not expected to find such fascinating and interesting pieces to translate. Slowly, they began to read as folktales and mythologies of places from all over the world.
For example, there was a piece on an ancient Chinese folklore of a female warrior name Fa Mulan who joined the Imperial Army secretly in her father's stead. Through several struggles that she faced internally with her morals and externally with the physicality of training and war, this soldier helped her troop emerge victorious. However, her secret was revealed to her commanding officer, but rather than execute her as she had broken the laws of the land where women do not join the Imperial Army, she was spared. By doing so, she later returned to save the emperor and her former troop and commanding officer from a dangerous threat and was heralded with the highest honor. And though her country held her in high regards and continued to seek her assistance in military matters, her heart and priorities were to her family.
This was, perhaps, one of the fewer easier jobs seeing as Milo had extensive studying and background in the various Chinese dialects and written language forms. But it was quite fascinating to learn of this woman and her victories both for her country and for social progression. He could imagine that it must have been a popular story to share from generation to generation and to inspire the young women of its culture. It was also interesting to Milo when he noticed the coincidence that Gryffindor seventh year Mulan Zhou shared the same name as this heroine, but he pegged it to simply be that her parents must have resonated with this story and named their child after this protagonist.
More work came in and each story was just as vibrant and interesting as the next. From stories of fairy twins separated at birth only to be reunited later in the future to an Arabian princess and her tiger pet/guard as well as the former's relationship with a supposed street rat-turned prince and even to a magical walking castle that brought two lovers together as they broke curses laid upon them, the myths were simply engulfing. As Milo grew more and more fascinated with the work from the Ministry, he began to jot down notes and records of his translations, keeping track of what he had done and the stories and languages he had learned.
And since this work was on top of his already full schedule with classes and teaching, being invested in the stories seemed to slow his pace as more work came in. Aside from the fact that each document came in its own language, some of which Milo was not entirely fluent in but had books on, he simply found it difficult to let go of the characters and their lives. He had not been able to return translations as quickly as he would have liked to Charles Martin, but Milo was indeed a busy person.
But the more he worked on this project in his spare time, the more interesting connections he was beginning to make. In fact, Milo had even begun finding similar traits in his peers around him aside from the names. But, with Milo's attention span already so thin and spread out amongst so many areas, he never was able to sit down and pinpoint just why these myths and stories felt so familiar to him.
Perhaps, he'll just have to figure that out when he had the time to catch a breather and really sit down to study the work.
