Vacation-Staycation Eternal Blu-ray Catch-up! This was the final western for the time being. 🎞️ Chapter 5: Major Dundee 🎬 This was another western that I hadn't seen before. And because of Arrow's beautiful box set, I've now seen a couple versions of it. This is what would've been Sam Peckinpah's first epic, if it hadn't had so much faltering in the making. That said, I have to agree with most previous assessments, which is that the extended/restored cut of the film (put together in 2005) are easily superior to the even more heavily edited theatrical release cut from 1965. But at the same time, I should also say, it was alright, but not all that great in my opinion. Visually it's wonderful, and the performances are mostly quite good for what they are given to do, but it's not difficult to see some of the lack of coherence even in the restored version.
